ttun recruiting (all classes)

Was this a one time coup or is Michigan about to start buying everyone ala Oregon? I’m not sure but that’s insane money for a high school kid.

Obviously they are 5-5 so… something like this being celebrated like another natty is kind of expected. But QBs like this come and go every year and many , many of them do not end up being program definers. If Underwood is merely a good player , that’s a huge disappointment for them.

Not going to diminish it because he’s the top prospect so they made a big move in getting him, but right now they need coaching staff changes, the team is in the dumpster, some 18 year old is not coming in to save the program. He’s a piece but they need a lot more.

I think this is a one time coup, the way things look in the immediate aftermath tend to back that up.

We aren't seeing a run of upper level guys flipping there

They have 3 projected flips

The #17 WR also from LSU
The #9 "ATH" from Duke (barely cracks the top 200 at #199
and the #36 CB (#372 OVR) from Colorado

I think if anything we will see more like the above than any near landscape changing additions.

Underwood being purely a NIL money addition and this being the NIL era alone makes it hard for him to truly be some kind of program changing force. They are still going to have a hard time convincing any better skill position players from the portal to go play there. Even if they could convince these doners to throw a boat load of money at the portal they still would have to do a lot to that roster to make it legit conference title/playoff competitive next year.

In all honesty, great pick-up by the tCunners.
The issue I have with it, the kid didn't want to go there. He is only there because of money. To have a successful formula there needs to be a little bit of both.

Their fan base has ragged on OSU for being full of prima donnas and soft. Meanwhile they are dipping their foot into that world, and doing it Texas A&M style.

We shall see.

Just another high horse tCun gets knocked off of. They've whined and moaned about schools "buying" kids when they weren't doing it. Now they have to throw a dangerous, precedent setting NIL bag at a home state kid who never wanted to be there. College football is in the toilet, man. It's minor-league pro football now. Many of these kids are just mercenaries for hire. No pride, no loyalty...just follow the $$$. Explain to me how it's different from the NFL other than lower quality players and no real contracts?

They are busy cranking the mental gymnastics trying to convince themselves and others that the kid who got offered the biggest NIL bag we publicly know about to date definitely did not go there just for the money. Just call it what it is, it's the game now so it's fine but don't act like he just loves the culture or whatever BS. It'll be funny in the end cause it won't work, kids who go places they don't really want to be for the money so far have tended not to work out.

They can argue all they want. He never once publicly indicated he was even considering tCun and even seemed to reaffirm his commitment to LSU last week in the face of the money. Suddenly, the next week he flips. If you have to throw an unheard of amount of $$$ to get a kid to stay home and help the local school, everyone knows what this is, just like they know their "accomplishments" of 2021-23 are fugazi.

Im pretty sure plenty of people in the "know" got the vibe he was 100% against going to Michigan and wanted to get away from the state.

The best part about this is when this is is all they get in the end, they aren't throwing big bags at anyone else, they'll get some scraps they can get to flip from schools like Pitt Duke & Colorado but they are acting like they are going to come out now and buy whoever they want, it's not gonna happen. Transfer portal season is gonna be a laugh when they bring in a couple of meh OL and MAC/FCS type WRs. Just because they got a few dudes who have never given money to the football program before to donate for the QB doesn't mean they are going to keep shoveling out money at will.
