There are plenty of HS coaches (and younger than that) out there that teach to go low. It's not an illegal hit, but it can be a career ender. Newsome pulls on that play and he's one on one with a much smaller CB, the CB knows he isn't going to shed the block so he goes low to take him out for the next guy to make the tackle. If you don't know a lot coaches teach that then you're just being obtuse. They aren't teaching it to maim or injure, but it's still a dangerous play. As Newsome will attest too.

He was a 60+% passer for his career. I don't know what that fell to when he was under pressure but I'm guessing somewhere in the 40's.

Look at Speights numbers pressured/unpressured.
