ttun basketball (Juwan out, Dusty May in)

They got more mileage out of one win over a team playing horrendous basketball than anybody all year. What did they jump? Seven, eight spots after beating tOSU last weekend? Like I said after that game, them barely eeking by at home with the type of game tOSU played showed their mediocrity. Most other teams would have run over us by 15-20 points...

Bingo. They are a decent team...when playing in Ann Arbor. They have beaten no one of consequence on the road or on a neutral floor. For [censored] sake, they lost on the road to an Arkansas team that lost by 30 to Florida at home. Florida is a decent team. scUM is not.

As I said before--they're in trouble when the NCAA tournament comes along because the last time I checked, there aren't any games being played at Crisler Arena. The ONLY way they make it out of the first weekend of the tournament is if they get ridiculously hot from 3-point range.

scUM's best win away from Crisler is either Memphis (a neutral floor win, not a game at Memphis), a team who is 21-8 in a putrid Conference USA, or at 19-10 Purdue, a team that scUM squeaked by on the road and promptly got housed against yesterday in the rematch.

That's the rub. They have, on occasion, got hot from 3. That's how his wvu team advanced to the Elite-8 back in '05...but I don't think this team has the shooters to pull that off for 3-4 consecutive games.

Last year, they managed to house a Tennessee team that had completely quit with a lame duck coach. To their credit, they gave a pretty good dook team all they could handle, but the shots weren't dropping enough to pull it out. Who they draw this year will be interesting. I think they end up as a 4 or 5 seed. They meet up with a motivated team that can outmuscle them, they're dead in the water.

Agreed. With the wrong matchup, I could easily see them being one-and-done, losing to a 12 or 13 seed. That's how underwhelmed I've been with them this season.

I suppose that this belongs in the Football Forum, but the more TSUN fans keep it up, the more I want to see a beatdown of epic proportions in November. I want to see every one of these Ohio kids that goes north experience the same feeling that Burgess, Crable, and all the rest of them have felt recently. I feel that same about Burke in basketball. And I feel the same about their fans that post here.

If that makes me seem to be small-minded, that's fine. I have friends who teach at the University of Michigan, who I respect, and I respect that they want to support their team. I wouldn't encourge them to do anything else. They are my friends and this just happens to be something on which that friendship is not built.

However, this pathetic cry for attention and shouting of the odds by people in Columbus is something different. This kid talking about blood running in Ohio Stadium is something different. When Ohio State is wearing national championship rings and his team is looking for a win in a December bowl, we'll see how he feels about the choice he has made.

There are some pretty big problems in the world these days. Sports rivalries are really a pretty minor in the scheme of things. But I grew up in Columbus, Ohio. The people there are my people. Their lives have been shaped immeasurably by The Ohio State University. That local economy, which has been much less affected by recessions over the last century, can look to the knowledge economy that supports the University as a major reason for local prosperity. My grandparents, my parents, my family all benefitted from Ohio State. I don't know where I would be if not for Ohio State.

So, I support the Ohio State Buckeyes. When TSUN fans behave like this, especially when they are disloyal people that have benefitted from Ohio State their entire lives, then it really does make me want to see TSUN get blown off the field. If that makes me a small-minded Midwestern hayseed, then so be it.

The fact that a team like scUM is even in the Big Ten title hunt right now speaks very poorly for the top of our conference. It proves NFBuck's point from another thread--the Big Ten may be very solid in the middle this year, but it is pretty weak at the top.

Absolutley yes to this. This is the weakest season in recent memory for the top of the conference.

I don't think there are a lot of great teams at the top of other conferences, though. Certainly UK and Syracuse, but who after those two is more impressive than OSU and MSU? Maybe Kansas and/or Mizzou? Certainly not Duke, IMO. UNC looks great at times and on paper, but they've looked surprisingly mediocre at times and have lost some games in very surprising fashion. The top two teams in the country have set themselves apart, but after that it's anyone's guess this season.

Regardless of what you say about Missouri, Kansas, Duke, UNC, I'd take them (not to mention quite a few other teams) on a neutral floor over scUM. And yet scUM is an OSU win tomorrow away from sharing in the Big Ten conference crown. That's weakness at the top, IMO.
