I don't remember him being viewed as a lottery pick. Even after his tournament run, I remember him being discussed as a mid-first rounder. It was a risk, but even with this draft as deep as it is, if he had stayed healthy, he could have definitely played himself into the lottery. And after playing very well last March, there was reason to believe that was quite possible. The injury risk is one anybody coming back takes. However, smoking some chronic during the season and getting popped for a suspension is his own stupidity. I wouldn't be surprised to see somebody still take a shot at him in the 21-30 range based on potential.

Long range though, this season really hurt him. Kids that are still somewhat raw that come out after not playing a whole lot do not have a great success rate. Look at Byron (B.J.) Mullens and even Koufos. They've both contributed at points, but neither have come close to the potential they had coming into tOSU.

Oh well. Hopefully Doyle and Wilson can come in and have some impact as freshman. They are going to be our biggest guys at 6'9 and 6'8 respectively.


and Donnal, who redshirted last year is 6'9 and supposedly added a lot of weight. But alas, it'll be a typical Beilein team that gets dominated on the boards. Everything will hang on how much work Levert, Irvin, and Walton put in over the summer.

Chad Ford had him as a lottery pick (#12 overall) before he decided to return. I'm really not sure why he decided to return, because I don't think he was going to play himself any higher--he was never going to be a top-10 pick.

That aside, we can all agree that his decision to return was a monumental gaffe in every respect. And I'm not sure teams will take a shot on him in the first round--his age isn't doing him any favors (he's 21 now and will be 22 in June--I'm not sure how it's even possible for a college sophomore to be that old).

So McGary's just like every other student-athlete in that respect. That doesn't explain how McGary hitting the weed and getting ushered out of college basketball early because of it makes you hate the NCAA even more. And if you check the definition of hypocrisy, you still haven't mentioned anything that fits within that definition.

Couldn't happen to a player at a better school; however, but to his credit he is showing some class in how he is handling it:

The Chesterton, Ind., native could’ve just turned pro and not mentioned the failed drug test publicly or privately. It stands to reason other players have done just that.

Instead, McGary believed being honest would be best for himself, his family, the Michigan program and his pro future, where he won’t have to worry about news leaking out and NBA teams believing he was hiding something.

While he doesn’t agree with the length of the NCAA’s punishment, he wants to be clear he isn’t blaming anyone but himself. He sat across a table here Thursday seeking a chance to give an explanation, not an excuse.
