TSUN 28, Michigan St. 24 (final)

Maybe a little longer. It isn't like you lost to one of my schools, Grand Valley in roundball. They don't call them the Lakers for nothing. I think Sparty thought they were playing Kobe and the LA Lakers...
Grand Valley's one of my schools now too.....I shamelessly and without reservation jumped the bandwagon at the beginning of last year's football season when my brother started school there. Their basketball win over MSU is LOADS of fun, absolutely, but I think we'll eventually see the same situation as with football where MSU beats UM in basketball anyway, and then we can't really call them out on it any more. But it'll be fun while it lasts.

As a Cavs fan,

what rivalries do YOU look to?
There are three. Virginia Tech is the biggie, the in-state rivalry, and it looks like this year's game will decide the Coastal Division. Glad it's in C-ville this year. Maryland is a big one because typically the two schools are dead even in both football and basketball. UNC is the South's Oldest Rivalry and it's usually very gentlemanly though it took on a little spice when Ronald Curry was playing there.

As for the Wake Forest game, as usual I didn't get to watch, only follow on GameCast.

I've never seen Chad overthrow Mario so much. Missed him in the Illinois game, a couple of other times before today too. Ridiculous.

Shawn Crable is a beast for catching Ringer on that one play.
Man, you said it. Twice. Mario got open deep quite a lot and Chad must have overthrown him four or five times. His shoulder must be OK.

And that Crable play won't make any news because MSU ended up scoring anyway, but the hustle he showed there deserves major credit.

you got that right sniper... I couldn't believe someone caught Ringer on that one! Good win against MSU though to say the least, but I think it gets much tougher for the Weenies next week!

I'm torn on wether to root against or for U-M next week against Wisconsin?

I mean I hate wisconsin, but if Michigan loses the worst we can do at that point is tie for the title and since we're the higher ranking team we would still go into the BCS without a doubt. For sure if we lose I think the Rose Bowl would pick us up ASAP.

Wait if UM beats Wisconsin and Ohio State, why would the Rose Bowl pick OSU? UM would be the Big 10 Champs.

I'm really not too impressed with Wisconsin. If Anthony Morelli can carve them to pieces, so can Chad Henne. Chad was outstanding today in leading the comeback and showed some great leadership. His last two TD tosses were perfect throws.

No, the Rose Bowl automatically takes the Big Ten champ, and if there's a tie, the first tiebreaker is head-to-head results, so the Rose Bowl would be "stuck" with Michigan in the event Michigan wins on the 17th. The Rose would probably prefer OSU, actually, with a better record and no risk of a rematch if Oregon ends up in Pasadena. But the Buckeyes would be a lock for a BCS at-large bid. The Orange Bowl people would probably dance in the streets if Boston College went on to the title game and were replaced by Ohio State.

hmmm I stand corrected... you're right.. damn you michigan fans haha..

I don't wanna play in no orange bowl. My very best friend is a VA tech fan and if we have to play them (if VA tech were to get there) we would crush them. I'd love a shot at oregon though.. Well I guess OSU better just beat michigan and take it all hu? haha

He is also a Virginia fan.

Also, there is a possibility that the Cavaliers make the Orange Bowl.

Like I said. Different players, different coach, same Spartans. Gotta love 'em.

Henne, by the way, did a FANTASTIC job under pressure in the 4th quarter. It's not that MSU didn't get any more pressure on him, it's just that he stood in there and got rid of the ball quicker than before. He threw that TD to Mathews despite the fact there were two Spartans with bad intentions about eight inches away. Good play-calling by the coaches to get the WRs open on that first drive so that Henne could throw it right away.

This game had echoes of the 2004 game in it.

So neither UM nor OSU has clinched a share of the Big Ten, but you guys ought to be happy anyway - this guaranteed that the game in two weeks is for all the marbles. As it should be, of course.
If these were the same Spartans, they would have been outscored by 30 in the second half. I understand the thought process: "MSU could/should have won 4 of their 5 losses, so they must be the same collapsing clowns."
I just don't understand how anyone could have watched MSU play this year and think they're the same Spartans. It borders on idiocy. In years past MSU would simply have disappeared at some point this season. They would have been down 14-3 at the half to scUM and come out and laid an egg the second half and lost by 30. I suppose it's possible for them to turn into the same old Spartans, but they haven't done it yet. They've played 60 minutes in every game- maybe not 60 good minutes, but 60 hard minutes. They lost because they didn't make plays, not because they stopped playing- which was the hallmark of the Sparty collapses we're all accustomed to. If Sparty comes out next week and gets completely spanked by Pud then you can say same old Sparty. If that doesn't happen, you just sound like Mike Hart...talking trash about your "little brother" that almost beat your ass in a game you should have won easily.

S.O.S. seems to be embedded into most UM fans liked ND fans, just with a different meaning (Same Ole Sparty). It seems to me like devious hatred of sparty overtakes the reasoning skills in many.

IMO no one thought sparty was actually that good before the "collapse" (unlike some past JLS squads), so can they really be choking? This is about as good as most thought they were... however, most didn't see them nearly beating Wisky, UM, etc.

They play hard all game. A different coach doesn't magically bring talent to their defense... or overcome the lack of talent and experience on offense. Mallett might be worse than Hoyer if he were their qb... at least for this year.

Agreed, MSU just doesn't have the athletes on defense or at QB but they never quit.

tsun fans are setting themselves up for disapointment if they think Dantonio won't give them fits while he's at MSU.

If Michigan should have won easily, then why did you "like MSU's chances" and declare you'd have vbet on them?

The Spartans I know are talented but lose to teams with less talent than they've got (Northwestern, Iowa.) The Spartans I know take dumb penalties at very bad times (blindingly obvious late hit out of bounds today). The Spartans I know start fast with big hopes and go cold late - bad finishes are an MSU trademark. Even Spartan fans are calling this Same Old Sparty. It's just like the Lions last year. Marinelli had 'em playing, unlike Mooch, but they were still 3-13. Same old Lions.

That, he will do. When John L. Smith was hired, we just laughed, because we knew that MSU's problem under Bobby Williams was undisciplined play, and Smith's Louisville teams were some of the most penalized in the NCAA. That hire was doomed from the start. Dantonio actually has his head screwed on straight.

Where? RB and...? I guess Thomas & Davis are talented, but hardly give them any substantial edge in talent. Iowa often has good TEs, more often than MSU.

Iowa & MSU bring in similar levels of mediocre talent... with a few more army AA's in Iowa's corner.

Wonderful, then everyone in MI is incapable of anything but surface analysis and kneejerk reactions.

Please point out where Sparty collapsed this year, which is their M.O.

It's like someone watching Illinois last year and saying 'same ole Illini' after a bunch of narrow losses, when the difference in attitude and aggression was undeniable.

The fags from Ann Arbor (is a whore) cost me 7,000 vCash today by not covering a 4.5 spread. Thanks Blew. BTW, please feel free to use Blew as a new use of slang for our northerly beings. My one buddy is a Blew fan, and he keeps insisting on calling them Blue, and I just insisst mi spelling aren't goode.

scUM should have won easily because they have top 5 talent coming into their program every year and basically has every possible advantage over MSU. I liked MSU's chances because scUM's coaching staff is fucking horrible, and despite all the talent coming in most of the players on the field seem to depreciate as they progress through their careers at scUM. They take plays off, play uninspired and generally act like jackasses on the field.

The Spartans you know seem to be the spartans you read about in the paper the day after the game. The results aren't the compelling factor with these Spartans, the effort is. Spartan fans calling this Same Old Sparty means about as much as the dickchews who started the FireJimTressel.com web site because the offense was boring.

I hope the entire scUM program feels the same way you do, because when MSU starts kicking scUM's dicks in the dirt it will be that much funnier.

Henne TD pass rallies Wolverines

Sunday, November 4, 2007 3:45 AM
By Larry Lage

Associated Press

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan trailed Michigan State by 10 points midway through the fourth quarter yesterday, making it deafening in Spartan Stadium.

Mike Hart insisted that he started laughing.
"Sometimes, you get your little brother excited when you're playing basketball -- let them get the lead," he said. "And then you come back."
The 15th-ranked Wolverines did just that.
Chad Henne threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Mario Manningham with 2:28 left to lift Michigan to a 28-24 win.
"We were saying all game that they couldn't stop Mario," Henne said. "He was beating their corner every play."
