I don't think taking away an extra DB to help make the needed Zibberboxerkowski tackles 15 yards down field is going to help to be honest but RR is the coach and he's won like 4 or 5 more B10 games than I have so he obviously knows what he's doing.
Oh, I don't know. I see it as addition by subtraction myself...if that makes any sense.

We have a 10 win offense, and a 2 win D.. Therefore we will win 8! :tongue2:

but all joking aside, I'm one of those who wishes we ran a 4-3.. Let's look at some quick recruiting/arbitration losses the past few years:

(Would be Seniors/ Redshirt Juniors)
Artis Chambers (6-2 185 4.5 3* S transferred to Ball State)
Marell Evans (6-2 204 4.7 2* LB transferred to IDK)
Donovan Warren (6-0 175 4.4 5* CB left for NFL)
Jeremy Finch (6-1 203 4.5 4* S committed to Florida, transfer to Indiana, etc etc)- he didn't do anything in college, but at the time it hurt.

(Would be Juniors/ Redshirt Sophomores)
Brandon Smith (6-3 210 4* S transferred to Temple)
Marcus Witherspoon (6-2 215 4* LB who transferred to Rutgers **believe he didn't qualify there as well)
Taylor Hill (6-2 205 4* LB transferred to Youngstown State)
Boubacar Cissoko (5-9 171 4* CB dismissed from the team)
Ethan Johnson (6-4 266 4* DE who committed to ND over UM & USC)
Nick Perry (6-4 235 4* DE beast at USC before his injury)
Jamoris Slaughter (6-1 185 4* S committed to ND over UM)

(Would be Sophomores/Redshirt Freshman)
DeQuinta Jones (6-5 307 4* DT who's starting at Arkansas)
Pearlie Graves (6-2 286 4* DT who redshirted at Texas Tech)
Adrian Witty (5-9 175 2* DB academic casualty, enrolled at Cinn)
Justin Turner (6-2 186 4* DB, transferred to WVU)
Anthony LaLota (6-4 235 4* DE, transferred to Rutgers)
Vlad Emilien (6-1 186 4* S, transfer destination unknown ATM)

there are countless more, but I'm too lazy to finish the rest of this research.. But from the numbers shown here, that's a loss of: 5 safeties, 3 linebackers, 4 cornerbacks, 2 defensive tackles, and 3 defensive ends. (don't criticize my math if its wrong! i'm tired! :tongue2:) And yes I know, some transferred because they were terrible, didn't play, didn't like the coaches, etc, etc, but I'm just trying to point out numbers wise what the problem is.

Imagine if we had Nick Perry bending the edge with Mike Martin collapsing the pocket in front of him.. but we don't.. :( Our depth on the d-line is sad right now. Once we took Martin out the game, they ran right at the spot vacated by him and scored on a 22 yard TD to Willis. Roh got kicked out and RVB got stonewalled where he stood. Didn't help that Carvin Johnson followed the motion WR and vacated the lane that Willis tapdanced through for a TD.

I wish we would run a 4-3, but we don't right now and I guess I just have to trust they see something I don't. We're 5-0 right now, and as terrible as the D is 5-0 is the best record you could hope for at this time.. I'm looking forward to next week's game vs MSU and seeing whether we can come up with some adjustments to fix our defensive problems.. If somebody else brings the glue, I have the ducktape!

Someone just told me that if Michigan just had a defense they would beat OSU this year. :roll2: Pretty big fucking "if" if you ask me. Not to mention Denard's going to be in a wheelchair in a few weeks if they keep letting him carry the offense alone. I hope we never sink to their level.

i swear after the final whistle yesterday, Greg Robinson grabbed RR and apologized then hung his head in shame....... classic

Is it really that funny that your D co-ordinator has to apologize to his QB about the D's atrocious pay? We all know who's fault it is that your recruiting on the defensive side has has been piss poor. Robinson has absolutely nothing to work with. DickRod did the same thing at WVU and he will never change.

Whichever scUM fan thinks that they win against the bucks with a real defence has been sniffing some serious shit. The bucks have played these fancy offences in the past and have been successful against them. I'm still not convinced the scUM offence is that great. That may change in due time but right now I'm not buying.

I watched a majority of this game, and I came away thinking that UM and IU are pretty dead even teams. They both have prolific offenses with many weapons, but both have piss-poor defenses (hence the close game that was won by who had the ball last).

Robinson is a beast coming out of the backfield, but on a couple of the long throws, he showed he is not the passer some are touting right now as his recievers had their man beat and the ball sailed way over their heads. The hail mary throw that Hemingway had to stop, twist, and jump to get was just that, a hail mary toss up and not a great pass what so ever. He got lucky that he had a good receiver there to adjust to the ball. He has a long way to go, IMO, passing the ball before I will call him a good/great QB. He is one hell of a running back right now, best in the country by far.

But, again, we are pretty much in the same chapter of the UM season as last year. IF (Big IF) they are able to knock off 2 of the next 3 with how bad their defense is playing, then I might buy in to them this year. Right now, I am still not seeing it.

I agree.

All it did was confirm that scUM is firmly in the IU weight class.

Better teams will have the offensive balance to shred that defense in any number of ways. Better teams have the athletes on defense to make a lot of the tackles the IU's and UConns miss.

I don't think teams are just going to shut down Robinson (staying healthy aside) but I think they will really struggle to score the 30+ it will take to win with that defense.

he is still developing as a thrower, that's for sure. He's only a true sophmore, so the touch pass is still a work in progress. I was disappointed he missed those two long throws.

Buckeye fans should know a little bit about growth as a passer after watching TP for a couple seasons. He is just now looking like a better passer, except on those short out passes, he still seems to struggle some.

I can only hope Denard improves his passing the same way TP has done.

Second year in a row that the Big Ten officials bail out UM and screw over Indiana. We all know what happened last year. This year, on DR's 17 yard run on the final drive, an IU linebacker was blatantly held (to the point where he threw both of his arms in the air and was still stuck to the UM defender, in an attempt to show the refs how ridiculously obvious it was), and yet it wasn't called. Instead of UM having a 10 yard penalty and being back at their own 30 or so, they were across midfield. Given the amount of time left in the game, had the correct call been made and UM had to line up at the 30, they might have just taken a knee.

I was at a wedding during the game. I couldn't watch the game. Do you have a link to the play in question?

Thanks

Zero defense. Literally one of the worst I've ever seen. Slow, out of position, no athletes...just bad. scUM bad...

Exactly. I figured IU's defense would be bad, but that spectacle they put on Saturday night was atrocious. I've seen better athletes and defensive play out of decent (not good) high school teams. The fact that UM fans are puffing out their chests after a very, very close win against that bad of a defense speaks volumes for the state of the program. And the fact that they're gushing that much over DR for tearing up that bad of a defense speaks volumes for their delusion.
