Just flipped over to The Weather Channel in time to see two meteorologists argue like a Don Brown CNN panel over whether TWC has been forceful enough in their coverage to convince people to evacuate.

The obvious solution here would be for The Weather Channel to hire Shep Smith.

"If you're here... you're dead. And your kids are dead."

Sister in law (dumber than a bag of hammers) refused to evacuate Tampa/Clearwater area despite being pregnant and raising a toddler. Lives in a low rent district which I'm sure isn't up to post-Andrew code. We visited last July. It's a dump.

My wife's losing her mind. I don't know what to tell her. Darwin? We told her sister to come to Ohio on Tuesday. She declined because traffic.

Probably puts me in line for a special seat in the fiery furnace, but I saw some guy earlier today going on about the homes there in the $195 mil. range and raving on about how expensive the destruction would be. There have been people in FL all week doing the math trying to figure out how to put enough gas in their car to drive their families out of harm's way, and still find enough left over to feed their children for the next week. And I'm supposed to give a 185-MPH flying fuck whether some neighborhood loaded with obscenely decadent indulgences washes out to sea? Yeah, it would probably bankrupt a couple insurance companies, and the owners would just sign the giant nine-digit settlement check sitting in one of their other houses in LA, but still...it wouldn't break my heart.

while new yorkers and new jerseyans dominate the gulf side, midwesterners unfortunately flood the gulf side. no pun intended. lots and lots of buckeyes down that way. if i remember correctly, the new york times combed facebook pages to determine college football fandom by county. for any county below orlando, the only non-florida football program found among the top 3 was ohio state. the buckeyes are especially strong along the coast from clearwater to naples.

yeah, i admit that it was a bit crass of me to post that meme, but i would be lying if i also didn't admit that i would find some satisfaction in palm beach island suffering destruction. the primary reason that i don't want that to happen, however, is that it would annihilate the livelihood of the surrounding service industry. as far as the snowbirds that populate pbi? meh... don't really care. and that's coming from a guy who has known at least a hundred who have a home/mansion/estate there.

i, too, saw that twc interview with the coked-up real estate agent. those blue chip agents are sociopaths. and you really knew he was an asshat when he praised rick scott.

On the Gulf side you can buy a home for $70k with a backyard bumping up against a country club. Pick two months for yourself and AirBNB the other ten and the rent pays double your mortgage and more. Gulf side of central Florida is dirt cheap real estate being sold off by "greatest generation" snow birds. Great investment opportunity.

while the atlantic side certainly is more expensive, it's one long crack house row punctuated by mcmansions and jaw-dropping estates.

you should see what surrounds trump international. i was on the 9th hole when i heard the shots from a robbery. when trump was on the property, he would have a big samoan (ralphie) packing heat who would follow him everywhere. a high-rise jail overlooks holes 3 and 4. you can sometimes hear the inmates hooting and hollering. slip through the fence off of hole 6 and you have a very short walk to a seedy strip joint.

This is not good

P.S. @LostLassie if it helps with 185 mph fuck giving, Thank God Sir Richard Branson rode out the storm in the wine cellar of his private island and is safe and sound for all the world to celebrate huh?

sad news about the dozens of dead peasants but at least we have one celebrity survival story to make us all feel better

There are always those people interviewed on the news who insists they're staying at home, and you never seem to see a follow-up story where they were the ones who got blown away (Harry Truman at Mt. St. Helens being the notable exception). People do survive these things.

It's not gonna help, however, when the cell towers go down & you can't communicate with her for who knows how long.

Give your poor wife a lot of hugs this weekend. Sounds like she's gonna need them.

Hey, where is she exactly? There's a big shift upward in the storm surge forecast for the Tampa area.
