Trey DePriest (former LB Alabama)

Scout $ - Trey DePriest departs Tuscaloosa

7/26

By Bone...Coach Cupps says there is not timetable for a decision and says he is not involved in the decision and has merely acted as a travel agent for Trey and his family...the last he heard from Trey was that he wanted to wait until after the season.

What is interesting is usually in-state kids leaving don't announce early (see: Hicks, Jordan or Davis, Fred)...but in this case, Trey waiting only improves OSU's chances, however slim they may be...

I got the same impression...Mom was not at all impressed with Tuscaloosa. She should not be...outside of the college itself and bars there is nothing there...The ride and the heat could not have made it a pleasant trip.

IMO the Mom has stepped in. I think the update on Bucknuts was very pro OSU...Mom may be the trump card. The timing of the announcement is what makes everyone think its Bama but IMO MOM/grandparents and son are gonna have some Heart to Heart talks.

Theres one thing to brag Alabama up in football but like the recent Cupps article states things other than football will decide where he goes...to me that means family and academics...location.

This may be a Buckeye curveball if he picks the Buckeyes...I actually like our chances better than before this weekend.

You have to remember that Bucknuts leads the interviewee in a certain direction with the questions. And I'm sure Mrs. DePriest is well aware of who the audience is.

There's no doubt in my mind that he's going to Alabama.

Couldn't agree more. You don't lean to Alabama for several months, spend a few hours at OSU on Friday then spend several days in Alabama and come back and change your mind and do a complete 180. He has been to both schools before these visits. These visits weren't about discovery but about confirmation.

Seems like he's headed to 'Bama. If so, good luck and have fun (sincerely). However, it wouldn't shock me to learn he decided on tOSU after visiting campus in the heat of summer (which he would be enjoying for summer training sessions as well). Having spent a summer working outside in Birmingham, this yankee nevah nevah wants to experience that again . I also respect his desire to wrap this up and not be distracted for his upcoming senior football season. I think it speaks well of him that he is not a prima donna loving the attention and spotlight.

Unfortunately, I'm wrong far more often than I'm right, and of course, as usual, I have no inside info, but, if he announces on Friday, I'd be surprised if he goes with Bama.
I wouldn't. I just hope for Trey's sake, with the pending investigation i Tuscaloosa, he doesn't end up regretting his decision.

He's only giving a verbal commitment to Alabama. It won't be official until Feb. If things get dicy, he has plenty of time to change his mind.

I'm well aware of that, but, as I'm sure you know, these investigations usually take a considerable amount of time to shake out...

True.......But a lot of bad press can go on between now and Feb..........does Clarett ring a bell? OSU lost out on couple of recruits (Rico McCoy and a lineman from Cali who decommitted) before the Clarett investigation came to a close.
