also the sting of losing the top LB in the state for the 2nd year, to a powerhouse teams out of state, also doesnt sit well

Keep in mind that Jordan Hicks wasn't a native Ohioan, but rather a native Texan...he just happened to have lived in Ohio for a few years. Big difference here.

Don't confuse happenstance with a trend.

If you could point to some reason that LBs had cooled on OSU it might be reason for concern. It just happened that these two kids were not attached to the brand.

all im saying is that we lost out on the top linebacker, who played their high school football in the state of ohio, the past 2 years. period...you can go into how they have only lived here a year, or how they have worn alabama crimson tide underwear since they were 2 years old....bottom line is when they list that players name on a website or the schools Collegiate football program its going to say (City), OHIO

OMG.

Football - Roster - The Ohio State Buckeyes Official Athletics Site - OhioStateBuckeyes.com
I sure see a lot of players from Florida and Pennsylvania on OSU's roster. I bet Miami (FL) and Penn State are freaking out.

Wait, Penn State probably is.

If Trey chooses the crimson tide there are still some very good reasons not to lose too much sleep over it:

Etienne Sabino(Jr)
Andrew Sweat(Jr)
Klein Storm(So)
Dorian Bell(Fr)
Jordan Whiting(Fr)
Scott McVey(Fr)
David Durham(Fr) -could end up @ DE

Best of luck to Trey whatever he decides!

Why do you like where we are at with LB's.

I do this year but this about this year.

What about next year?

This is a discussion for another thread, but since you brought it up. Here are the players listed at linebacker for the 2010 roster with the seniors removed. I realize that some of these players will have no chance of seeing the field. Tell my why these guys can't step up next year? I have faith that the coaching staff will get the best out of these kids and make at least three good linebackers.

Sabino, Etienne Jr.
Sweat, Andrew Jr.
Bain, Dan Jr.
Jackson, Tony Jr.
Klein, Storm So.
McVey, Scott Fr.
Bell, Dorian Fr.
Durham, David Fr.
Hastings, James Fr.
Whiting, Jordan Fr.

Jordan Hicks was a native South Carolinian, but your point stands- he was not attached to Ohio State in any meaningful way.

We are absolutely set for 2010 and 2011. 2012 is where the first question marks happen, but that's only because the young guys have not had much of a chance to prove anything yet. And this is also not taking into account anyone else we grab this year (Price, Crowell, and Turene being possibilities.)

Bino-Klein-Moeller* is a pretty good trio. When they need a third lb on the field, bell/sweat/mcvey should produce one decent option. Durham is more likely to backup bino, whiting for klein.

If sabino continues to progress, they could try to work him and newsome onto the field together.

But all of this worrying assumes osu does not find a couple of quality backers. Once osu gives us a reason to worry about cb and lb development, then I will start considering it.
