Trev Alberts' Lists of Late and the Inevitable Anti-tOSU Conspiracy Theories

MililaniBuckeye said:
I'm almost afraid to ask which two he rated higher...
he didn't rate them at all... he just listed 5 intriguing matchups.

first, he talked about Boise St at Georgia on Sept 3, and mentioned the attrition of Georgia's stud defenders, the unproven play of Shockley, and the fact that Boise St returns most of their offense... said the Dawgs need to be careful...

second, he talked about the fact that Urban Mayer's first game as the Gator head coach is against old MWC foe Wyoming. he praised Wyoming's coach, said that he's the next big name, and the fact that the Cowboys are returning 10 starters on O. then he said that since the Crocs will still be adjusting to the new system, the score would be closer than you think...

third, he talked about Bowling Green and Omar Jacobs' trip to Madison, and called for the Falcons to upend the Badgers in the first major upset of the season...

fourth, he talked about the Tejas game, said that Vince has never seen 'backers like Hawk and Co- even went so far as to say that the Buckeyes have the best backers in the nation... then he said that the Silver Bullets would be concentrating on trying to stop Young, but that the Horns need to make sure that they concentrate on stopping TG2...

finally, he talked about ND going to Washington, and the revenge game for Ty Willingham... he emphatically stated that the game will have no real impact on the college football world, as both teams are terrible... he simply said that it's an intruiging matchup due to the coaching circumstances...

i must say, i pretty much liked the list, and the analysis... personally, i think he did his homework for this assignment, and picked five very interesting games... i especially liked the Wyoming vs Urban angle, and Bowling Green over Wiscy upset call...

*gulp*
i can't believe i actually agreed with Trev...
is this one of the signs of the Apocalypse? :p

Trev missing some angles...

As much as I liked some things (for once) on Alberts piece, I really dont think BGSU Wiscy is an upset, and i think he missed a lot of things on the OSU-Texas match up. For one, Wisconsin lost it's entire Front Four, which means no good pass rush on possibly the most dangerous Quarterback in the nation (no joke either, Omar Jacobs is ridiculously good.)

As for OSU-Texas, Texas has two really good Running backs in Ramonce Taylor and Selvin Young, but most prove themselves, as well as the story line of Troy Smith's first game back from a two game suspension. I also felt he should have stated something about Santonio Holmes, as he could be the best receiver in the nation next season.

...and I do still want to choke slam Skip Bayless.
I can deal with Trev Alberts, he's slightly retarded but occasionally does make a decent point, and at least his stupidity is entertaining, in a "puppy running into a wall 5 times in a row" sort of way. Skip Bayless, on the other hand, is the only person on TV that I actually think about killing. I don't know if an intelligent thought has ever occurred to him, and he states every opinion as if it were fact- and as if anyone who disagrees with him is a moron. I sent him an e-mail and asked him to quit his job so I never had to see him again. If I ever see him in person I will kick him in the nuts.

Omar Jacobs hasn't received near enough national attention. The guy threw 41 TD passes last year (tops in the nation) and had only 4 interceptions! He was one of only 3 guys that threw for 4,000 yards, and the other two had 13 picks (Timmy Chang at Hawaii) and 18 picks (Cumbie at Texas Tech).

What I don't understand is how he didn't get any pub. for the heisman last year. I'm sick and tired of the best team's Quarterback winning the award, that is not the purpose. The purpose is to give the award to a individual who excels in the game, and helps his team the most. No offense, but Leinart had all the personel to help him get his numbers. Omar Jacobs didn't and posted better stats across the board. He may not have done as well against tougher competition (Oklahoma) but he still did well, and he had the best TD-INT ratio out of anyone, 10 TD's to 1 INT... he should have at least gotten to New York, and if he has as good of a season this year, he should be goin this year.

You can compare Jacobs to Chang and Cumbie all you want, and even though he's better than them in reality, unfortunately reality means shit when it comes to the Heisman. Chang was a fifth-year senior who was in an offense designed specifically for him to get the stats win the Heisman...head coach June Jones all but said so. Had Chang been more consistent, threw less (far less, actually) interceptions, and maybe pulled a big upset during his tenure, then he would've been a serious, and bonafide, Heisman candidate. Cumbie was never a serious candidate, seeing as the media had learned its lesson with the previous two Texas Tech QBs that any QBs there is purely a product of the system and not an individually great QB. Jacobs is indeed an individually-great QB, but he played in the MAC and didn't lead them to a great season (Rothleisberger at least had some Heisman hype going into his season season and then promptly led them to a 13-1 record and a bowl win...after an opening loss at Iowa, the Red Hawks scored 40+ points in 11 of their next 13 games which got Big Ben all the attention. Jacobs lost three games, including at Northern Illinois where they were held to 17 points, which hurt his publicity...and keep in mind he went into last season a relatively unknown, which he won't this year.

BJ Cincinnati, OH: Hey Trev, I noticed you didn't have Ohio State in your Top 5 and they weren't in your Top 5 most overrated either...Where do you see them ending up this year?

Trev Alberts: It's funny. People don't like me but now it's gone to another level. Now, I"m being disliked because I don't have them on a list? It doesn't mean I don't like them. There are 117 teams so I can't mention them all the time. I think the Big Ten is the best conf. in football this year. I salute them because I used to rip them. But not anymore. I think today it is the best conf. with the most talented teams and some of the best coaching. Where is Ohio St? They are right there. They are certainly not overrated. I can't wait until the Texas game. What a treat. OSU has a tough schedule so it will be interesting.

bryan (los angeles, ca): Trev, how could you not have Teddy Ginn on your Hesiman List?! That's just weak on your part...

Trev Alberts: He won't win the Heisman. He's a terrific player though. We see these talented, athletic kids .. but if Bush didn't win the Heisman, Bush won't win. He'll have spectacular plays but it seems to be more about consistency now. I just don't think he will have the numbers. Not saying it's right or wrong, that's just the way it is.

I noticed that too. I guess you can't say "I noticed you don't have tOSU in your top-5...where do you see them ending up?" without Trev feeling that you don't like him.

I work for ESPN. I'm smart enough - doggone it, and outside of Ohio, people like me!
