yes, that is correct about Smith. actually, that's why he claimed to be retiring from the Vikings. he said that he didn't want to keep getting beat up and wanted to focus on getting his medical degree. i guess he met Mary Jane and got sidetracked on the way back to med school...:wink2:

My bet would be on Robert Smith.

He's very controversial and not afraid to speak his mind to ANYBODY!!

He admitted to smoking weed while with the Vikings when talking to Dan Partrick a few weeks back.

When he said that he was in negotiations I beleive with ESPN already, and I heard that he was actually dropped from consideration because of the weed comment

Perhaps, b/c his volatile comments and emotionalism would have made him a perfect addition to ESPN's cast. This is the network that features Stuart Scott, Smith, Bayless, Paige, Cohen, May, Lachey, etc... and lets brilliant personalities like Kenny Mayne, Dan Patrick, and others fade out and fires their best analyst David Aldridge.

I'll just say that he isn't someone that is currently working in broadcasting and he may not make a lot of Buckeye fans happy. I know it's lame not to come out and say it but it's the best I can do.

I'll believe that a buckeye will be sitting next to Mark May when ESPN announces it. Actually I hope a buckeye never sits beside Mark May, because I hope Mark May gets fired too.

Regarding Robert Smith:

I’m probably in the minority here but I would be very happy with Robert Smith getting the job. I thought his comments about the MoC situation were fair: They were just taken out of context. He never implicated the university, Smith just said stuff like booster payments happen. As we found out with Troy Smith's situation, he was right. Can't hold that against him. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

Smith did plenty, during his junior year, to redeem himself from controversy he caused the year before.<o:p></o:p>

Also, Smith was at the 2003 Fiesta Bowl cheering his heart out for Ohio State. Despite his checkered past, Smith is a Buckeye and would do us proud if he got the chance. He's obviously a smart guy and it's a safe bet he'd be a major upgrade over Trev. <o:p></o:p>

I listened to the interview on ESPN radio he did with Amy Lawrence and Doug Gottlieb (I think it was DG?) He had a lot to say to any of the questions they were firing at him, and when the Moss/Weed thing came up, he admitted he too smokes it. He said he wouldn't have admitted it while playing in the league, but isn't afraid to admit it now. Also, Lawrence was apparently upset or else dumbfounded by one of his answers, because they disagreed, and she didn't say another word for the rest of the interview. It was something along the lines of her saying "Moss is a role model, and now kids will hear that Moss smokes pot, so they too will go out tomorrow and smoke a joint." His reply was comical because he basically told her that she was an idiot for feeling that way, and that he wasn't sure how her thinking got her to that rationalization.

It would be pretty hypocritical for Robert Smith to take this job considering his previous stance on sports and blacks. Smith has said numerous times that people put too much emphasis on sports, and that black people rely too much on athletics to bail them out of bad situations rather than get an education to succeed. If he turns around and becomes one of the guys that try to feed that disproportionate emphasis on sports, then he will lose all credibility, as a person, in my eyes.
