Hansbrough transferring from Mississippi St. to Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP)?Ben Hansbrough, who helped Mississippi State advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament last month, is transferring to Notre Dame.

The 6-foot-3 guard started 28 of Mississippi State?s 34 games and was fourth on the team with a 10.5 scoring average. Hansbrough is the younger brother of AP Player of the Year Tyler Hansbrough, a forward for North Carolina.

The younger Hansbrough said he chose the Fighting Irish over Purdue and Oklahoma State.

UCLA freshman will transfer

LOS ANGELES (AP)?UCLA swingman Chace Stanback, a freshman reserve who played in 25 games this season, will leave the program and transfer to another school.

?After speaking with my family and thinking about it for a long time, I feel that it is in my best interest to explore other opportunities,? Stanback said in a statement Wednesday. ?I want to thank my coaches and teammates because they have helped me improve as a player and grow as a man and I am thankful to them for that.?

The 6-foot-8 Stanback, a former California high school player of the year, averaged 1.0 point, 0.7 rebounds and 5.8 minutes for the Bruins, who advanced to the Final Four for the third straight season. He hasn?t decided where he?s going to transfer, but plans to leave UCLA following the spring quarter.

Holman tells Indiana he's transferring, throws tantrum; police called

INDIANAPOLIS -- Freshman center Eli Holman threw another potential wrench into Indiana's rebuilding project Thursday, telling coaches he intended to transfer before apparently throwing a tantrum in their office that required a call to the campus police.
The meeting, which coach Tom Crean described as cordial initially, certainly did not end that way.

"His behavior took me, along with the other people in the office, by surprise," Crean said in a statement released by the university. "We saw him as a danger to himself and wanted to take precautionary measures to help him. We felt bad for Eli and, hopefully, were able to help him."

IU is going off the deep end. They thought it was bad when Bobby was there and look at it now. They are almost embarrassing themselves well, I guess they are embarrassing. I hope the player did not throw a chair:)

I asked to believe that he will be looking for some still unsigned JUCOs before the season begins or this team might not even be competitive. Northwestern might be able to handle them:)

Sounds to me like a kid they recruited and convinced to walk on at IU instead of taking a 'ship at a smaller school.

Crean has been quoted in the Indy Star as saying he will not take reaches and offer scholarships to players who don't fit his long term plans. He has told everyone that they must be patient and that it will take time to build the program right.

The deal with Holman was an odd one though...I speculate that Crean really told him he didn't fit and asked him to leave, but again I am just reading between the lines....

Former Indiana C Holman transfers to Detroit Mercy

DETROIT (AP)?Eli Holman, the center who left Indiana last week after throwing a tantrum in new coach Tom Crean?s office, will enroll at Detroit Mercy.

The 6-foot-9 freshman, one of four players to leave Bloomington since Crean arrived, will be reunited with former Hoosiers assistant Ray McCallum, who was hired to replace the retired Perry Watson.

Holman, who received a medical redshirt after playing six games last season, averaged 24.7 points, 12 rebounds and 10 blocks as a senior at Richmond (Calif.) High School and selected the top defensive player in the state.

He became agitated Friday during a discussion with Crean and knocked a potted plant to the ground while he was leaving the coach?s office. Campus police were called but Holman was not arrested. He publicly apologized to Crean a day later.

Georgetown guard Jeremiah Rivers to transfer

WASHINGTON (AP)?Georgetown sophomore guard Jeremiah Rivers will transfer to another school, making him the second player to leave coach John Thompson III?s team since the end of the season.

Rivers, the son of Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers, played in all 34 games this season, averaging 2.5 points and 2.4 rebounds. Rivers, who has not indicated where he will transfer, was often used as a defensive specialist, assigned to the other team?s top scoring guard.

?Jeremiah and his family made a decision and determined this was best for him,? Thompson said Wednesday in a statement. ?We appreciate his hard work and wish him best in his future endeavors.?

Last month, backup center Vernon Macklin announced plans to leave. He has since chosen to attend Florida, according to several reports.

Iowa's Freeman to transfer to Southern Illinois

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Tony Freeman, Iowa's leading scorer from last season, is transferring to Southern Illinois.
The guard averaged 13.8 points and was a junior third-team all-Big Ten Conference selection by the coaches. He said earlier this month he would leave the Hawkeyes because Iowa coach Todd Lickliter did not value his ability.

Freeman said Monday the Salukis gave him the respect he wanted. He says Southern Illinois told him the team needed him to help lead and mentor younger players.
