Tracking scUM's record all year

There are a couple threads that are discussing scUM, but I wanted to have one to track their record over the rest of the season, with the hope that they'll actually end up with a losing record.

I know many fans want to see scUM come into The Game undefeated, both to maintain the legacy of the rivalry, and to give tOSU the satisfaction of ruining what could have been a perfect season for them.

But this year, since scUM is already unranked, I want them to have a losing season, just for 1 year. That will hurt them historically, by ending some long streaks they currently have.

They haven't had a losing season since 1967. I believe that's the longest such streak in the country, since Nebraksa went 5-6 last year. Note that scUM was 6-6 after losing to NC-winning BYU in the 1984 Holiday Bowl, so they have 20 straight winning seasons.

They have gone to a bowl game 30 straight years. I'm pretty sure that's the longest streak in the country, and I'd like to see that broken. It would be good for it to be broken before it reaches the Nebraska record of 35, which obviously ended last year.

scUM has 9 straight years with a January bowl game. It looks like that will end this year, even if they don't have a losing season.

Assuming they win at home against Indiana, but lose to JT in the season finale, that means they'll be 3-3, plus their record for 5 games in October. If they lose 3 of these next 5 games, we can give them their 6th loss, which for me would be just as much fun as spoiling a perfect season for them. Ending those streaks is something to look forward to.

As much as I love to see michigan fans miserable, I just cannot imagine they will be as bad as I hope they will be this year, or every year. The local michigan fans/grads were awfully quiet today at Rotary. They had nothing to say when I commented about OSU's dominating win.

@ Michigan State followed by a road trip to Minnesota with that defense! UM might be 2-4 in two more weeks.

I have been thinking the same thing though. All things considered, if we can't beat them to ruin a 10-0 season, we might as well pile on and help them end the season 4-7 or 5-6 and be the team that deals them the final loss to keep them out of a bowl game.

I don't want to see UM flounder too long though ... I wouldn't want to see Lloyd get fired. I've grown to really like Lloyd over these last four years. :)

How soon we forget.

Last year OSU went through an 0-3 slide and everyone was fighting for room on the ledge. A couple of adjustments/player changes and we were world beaters - the foundation of the team that came into this season with NC hopes.

I hate scUM (in the sense that all OSU fans are required to hate scUM), but they are no different. They have the talent and their coaches are not as bad as their own fans are saying any more than the things we said about JT last year were true. They have also had a ton of injuries.

Come November we will be in a dog fight in their house and the last thing I would want to do is go into that game giving the slimey bastards anything less than the respect they deserve.

It's not looking good for Michigan. The last 6 games, they have 2 wins - both over MAC teams.

I'd like to see them lose a lot of games, and lose them BIG. 34-14 loss to Penn State, 37-7 to Northwestern - stuff like that.

Even if Michigan is 2-8 before The Game, I think that Ohio State should not and will not look at them as a 2-8 team. Not to compare Jim Tressel to John Cooper, but too many times have I seen a superior OSU team lose to Michigan.

I was really assuming the results of their last 2 games for purposes of this thread only. I didn't want to discuss our match-up with scUM in this thread, there are plenty of other places where that will occur. We always have to be ready for that game; but at this point I'm hoping they come in with a 5-5 record so we can do them some historical damage.

Hey now... no losing season for scUM!!! I don't want them to have any excuse to fire Llyod Carr. I want Meatchicken to win the rest of their games and then lose on November 19th. :scum4:

I have to disagree with most of you when it comes to scUM losing 5 or 6 games this year. I would hate to see the UM/OSU rivalry fall as far as say Texas vs. Texas A&M or Army vs. Navy has in terms of national signifigance. This is THE rivalry game, the kinda game that when sportscasters are at lesser rivalry games they compare them to this one. I would absolutely hate to see them get so bad that we can't truly take pride in a win over them. That's the whole point, two teams that are consistently at the peak of college football squaring off in the last game every year. As much as I hate scUM it's the fact that we have to play a damn good football team every single year that makes this the best rivalry in any sport, period.

One season does not a rivalry make. This rivalry will never, NEVER sink that low. I would really like the chance to tell my best friend, who is unfortunately a scUM fan, that our biggest rival is really penn st., cause they at least give us a game.

Not to be a downer here, but I see two more losses for scUM -- scUM State and Ohio State. The MSU game is coming up too fast, it's on the road, and scUM State is hell bent to tear scUM a new one after last year's game. Paint the endzones on that one.

But after that, the shock of a three-game skid and being sub-.500 bears home on these guys. Some of the young players start to get it together and they turn the ship around, partly with the benefit of a light schedule. First, they knock Minny back down into the "we're almost there" ranks of the B10, then they hit an easy four-game stretch before "Troy vs. scUM: The Sequel".

scUM goes 7-4, and three B10 losses puts them in the Alamo Bowl, which they'll manage to lose to Oklahoma who barely scrapes their way in. I'm calling it at 7-5.

as much as i loath scum i want to see them win every game until they play us. I always want them to be the best they can before they lose to us. Sure there is that happy feeling that we get when the lose, but there is nothing like seeing their faces when we crush them and they were hyped as a "great" team.

I usually like to see scUM win so they're highly ranked when we get them, but this year I just don't care. As several have already pointed out, the rivalry will never die or decrease in importance. It's our turn to own them for a while, and pasting them at the end of a losing season would be delicious.

I know a lot of weasel fans, and it's great to see them miserable.

Some things that are on the line for the Wolves this season:

37 straight years without a losing season (longest on-going streak in the nation).
30 straight bowl appearances (longest on-going streak in the nation).
Longest on-going streak in the nation finishing ranked in the Top 25 (20 years).
20 straight seasons with no more than 4 losses (longest on-going streak in the nation).
Longest on-going streak in the nation without being shut-out (254 games).

I would love to see the OSU D put an end to the last one on that list!!!

UM boards are now in a complete state of chaos. The "Fire Lloyd Carr" contingent is now without a candidate, since they've apparently just fired Les Miles before they even hired him.

They are not as bad as we all would like them to be but they are a team who by their very design will have problems with teams that spread them out and utilize a mobile QB. MSU, OSU, NW and maybe even Iowa come to mind (if they can get their shit together). Minny and PSU could present their own set of problems to the boys in blue.

The season for them hinges on this weeks game. The go get pasted up in EL and the wheels could very well come off. OTOH, go up there and come out with a W and it could be the spark they need to salvage a decent year.

Best case for them imo, is 7-4 and the Alamo Bowl. Anything less than that is worse case so it really doesn't matter.

All that said, they couldn't pick a worse spot to have to make their stand. On the road to a team thats not intimidated by them and in fact hates their guts, who also gives them huge match up problems while the scUMers are still trying to figure out who and what they are this year.

The only thing I see in scUM's favor is the psycho nut job nature of the team that is MSU. If any team in the B10 is capable of taking this situation ripe for the plucking and just completely fucking it up...its MSU.
