In no way was I trying to slight Ken.
What year did he graduate?
My memory could be off, but I thought he was young that year. What I mean is, I didn't think he had came into his own at that point. I'm sure I could be wrong though.
Damn. I'm an idiot then. But still, the three guard set is what I remember hearing alot about. That was his senior year, I believe.
And that's what I don't agree with.I did say that, but if you read through the rest of my post I clearly say that an inside presence will help.
It is much like when they say that offense doesnt win championships, defense does. An offense matters, but defense is more important.
That was the point.

IMO, a strong inside game is just as important, if not more important, than a strong outside game. People like Shelden Williams, Marco Killingsworth, Josh Boone, Paul Davis, etc. not only pick up a fair amount of points every game, but they're also there to clean up their guards' messes game in and game out. We all saw that from Dials and Sylvester in this year's MSU game and last year's Illinois game as well as from Courtney Sims on Thursday night.
Luckily, we have both this year.
marco has two problems, he has a tendency to chase the ball, and his fundamentals arent all that great. he relies on athelticism and quickness way to much. today they he was fronted a lot and instead of sealing for a lob pass he tried to fight over the defense, pulling himself to far away from the basket. his footwork really needs some serious work, he was incredible potential, but he just isnt developing to what he could be.Also as we saw today with no guard play from IU Killingsworth was getting double and triple teamed and couldnt do a whole lot b/c they Guard play sucked.

on the inside/outside argument, folks its a lot like football... you can run to set up the pass or pass to set up the run, but you have to be able to be efficient at both if you want to have a championship caliber team.
its not necessaraily about having a big guy that every thing runs around, look at the msu teams of the late 90s early 00s, they basically ran a couple of 6-8 guys and a big 6-6/7 wing and pounded away with that. you can shoot your way into the sweet 16, but if you want to hoist a banner you need both.
