I did say that, but if you read through the rest of my post I clearly say that an inside presence will help.

It is much like when they say that offense doesnt win championships, defense does. An offense matters, but defense is more important.

That was the point.
And that's what I don't agree with.

IMO, a strong inside game is just as important, if not more important, than a strong outside game. People like Shelden Williams, Marco Killingsworth, Josh Boone, Paul Davis, etc. not only pick up a fair amount of points every game, but they're also there to clean up their guards' messes game in and game out. We all saw that from Dials and Sylvester in this year's MSU game and last year's Illinois game as well as from Courtney Sims on Thursday night.

Luckily, we have both this year.

brian brown was a freshmen who played not so much in the regular season and stepped up big.

ken johnson's last year was 00-01, all four years he played over 26 mins a game. his offensive game was refined a lot his sr year, but he was an eraser all 4 years.

Ok ? for ya, If you can only have who do you take,

Reddick or Williams?
Josh Boone or Rudy Gay
Paul Davis or Ager

Also as we saw today with no guard play from IU Killingsworth was getting double and triple teamed and couldnt do a whole lot b/c they Guard play sucked.

marco has two problems, he has a tendency to chase the ball, and his fundamentals arent all that great. he relies on athelticism and quickness way to much. today they he was fronted a lot and instead of sealing for a lob pass he tried to fight over the defense, pulling himself to far away from the basket. his footwork really needs some serious work, he was incredible potential, but he just isnt developing to what he could be.

on the inside/outside argument, folks its a lot like football... you can run to set up the pass or pass to set up the run, but you have to be able to be efficient at both if you want to have a championship caliber team.

its not necessaraily about having a big guy that every thing runs around, look at the msu teams of the late 90s early 00s, they basically ran a couple of 6-8 guys and a big 6-6/7 wing and pounded away with that. you can shoot your way into the sweet 16, but if you want to hoist a banner you need both.

Yes, this is very correct, just like I said with the football comparison about offense defense.

But just like when people talk about football they say a great defense combined with a decent offense is going to win more times in big games than a great offense with a decent defense.

Great guards with decent inside game will win against Great inside with Great guard play.

Back to our team this year, I think we have the good to great guard play and we have an inside presence, but just not strong depth, but we have a great set of guards that can carry us if Dials is struggling. See scUM game.

Guards light it up while Dials is struggling and then at the end Dials came into finish and that is when we pulled away a little.

I have watched a lot of college bball and there are no teams that are unbeatable and actually most teams look like they are on the same level. There isnt anyone besides maybe UCONN that I think has a distinct advantage against us. Who are you guys worried about?

Reddick
Boone
Ager when he decides to show up

Shaq or Wade?
Duncan or Parker?
Garnett or Szczerbiak?

Killingsworth had 21 points and 17 rebounds. He did more than "a whole lot."
El-Amin, Rip Hamilton. 99 Uconn. Champs. Name the Center. Quickly.
Can't. I was 9.
