tOSU vs. Northwestern, Wed 2/19 @ 7p ET, BTN

Lost in the late game BS, the Bucks played a solid offensive game tonight. It wasn't just shots happen to fall, it was good spacing and ball movement to get open looks in rhythm. Too often in other games we're forcing up shots as the clock runs down and we've seen the results. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

I learned a long time ago some are going to defend every Buckeye mistake as though holding our guys accountable makes them less of a fan. I look at it differently. I expect our guys to maintain a higher standard. So I'm not going to spend four pages debating Ross' innocence. He screwed up and got what he deserved. I don't think he'll make that mistake again. Thad will see to that.

Yes, many of the guys seemed to play with increased confidence offensively tonight. I hope they manage to carry that over.

As far as Q goes, he made a mistake but I sure hope he doesn't have to sit the next game because I don't think that is warranted. He didn't throw a punch or pull a Smart so I don't think anybody should be suspended based on what happened tonight.

Turd for NW threw a short punch after he basically bulled Amir under the basket. He should be tossed.

...and that was after the punk grabbed and pulled at Amir when the ball was still in play. All around, it was a punk move. Throwing the punch was just the icing on the cake. And later in the game, Cobb from Northwestern was correctly called for an intentional foul for blatantly shoving Craft in the back as he jumped to throw the alley-oop to Thompson. Chris Collins has done a solid job in his first year, but he has to get that stuff cleaned up.

I don't like seeing guys lose composure, especially from way behind the play, but I would agree that enough is enough sometimes. Amir was hosed on the play, should have not even been called for a foul.

Of course, this might be the one time where Amir's lack of fire was beneficial to a point.

NW has been getting a pass for way too long over stuff like this, due to their small size, academics and overall superiority over dumb slugs like us that went to land grant schools. I remember a football game about 10 years ago or so where one of the NW coaches went out on the field during a scuffle and punched an opposing player. I think it was against Air Force. As I recall, there was little or no press coverage on this, and the Big Ten and NW did nothing about it beyond a hand slap. It was like, "we are NW, we are better than you, so shut up". [\end mini rant]

Further to the point regarding Collins not having control of his team (but less along the general hooliganism/thuggery/fighting point, which has already been discussed), I don't remember the last time I saw a team put its opponent into the bonus as early as NW put OSU into it last night--there was something like 15:20 left in the second half and OSU was already in the bonus. And OSU was in the double bonus with over 10 minutes still to go in the second half. That's not playing smart basketball, something on which NW purports to pride itself.
