Madsen is going to put some very good quality min's in this season. He has looked great in both games this year and brings energy with him on the floor. Seems to have a motor that doesn't quit.

He's definately better than I thought he'd be. I too think he'll contribute this year. We have some very nice depth for once!

Nice to see Diebler hitting some 3s tonight. I think he was 3-6. Certainly much better than last years start.

Yea, the zone D looked really active tonight and was all over the ball, especially with the fresh legs rotating in and out. The offense looked a little like last years at times just passing the ball around the perimeter not doing much. I did see an increased ability to get to the hole with the improvements of Lighty and Turner and the addition of Crater. Buford looked really comfortable out there tonight too which is a great sign.

Simmons,Crater, and Buford all looked like quality contributors tonight, plus Diebler,Lauderdale, and Turner all look much better after a year-I just hope Diebler and Lauderdale bring it against ND,WVU,Big 10,etc. Turner will have a really good year I think, he was pretty quiet tonight, but always made a play or did the right thing when he got the opportunity.
DSU actually played better than they did against UD, but when you combine tOSU's athleticism with the shooting touch they had tonight= steamroller.

Depth, depth, depth. Been a long time since we've had this much depth. Everyone plays defense. Thats also great to see. We've always been electric when we are shooting well and that continues this season. I really like the way our big guys are moving with and without the ball. I think this team could run and gun a little this season with the athleticism we have and we'll get lots of points off turnovers. Great first game. Improve from here and lets see what we got.

I'm awfully impressed how together this team is playing this early in the season. It looks like they are playing late December ball right now. This team is definetly more than the "sleeper" team that the media is making us out to be this year. We're gonna be a legitimate contender this year if these guys keep progressing like they're progressing right now.

Looking forward to the Notre Dame game. Should be a really good barometer of where this team is this early in the season.

NEAL C. LAURON Dispatch
Ohio State's William Buford, left, and Anthony Crater, right, team to steal the ball from Delaware State's Fred Bouie.

Dallas Lauderdale sat in the postgame interview room appearing to have on one shoulder pad under his T-shirt. It was a bag of ice.
"My shoulder's fine," he said.
Who's going to argue with him?
Returning from a sprained left shoulder that kept him out of an exhibition game last week, the 6-foot-8, 255-pound sophomore started ahead of touted 7-foot freshman B.J. Mullens and had seven blocked shots last night, and Ohio State opened its season with a 70-42 win over Delaware State in St. John Arena.
"I found out I was starting at the (afternoon) shootaround," Lauderdale said. "I had to come ready. I wasn't coming off the bench, I wasn't feeding off whoever was starting in front of me. I had to come out ready."
The seven blocks were the most by an Ohio State player since Greg Oden had seven against Michigan in February 2007.

Associated PressOhio State freshman William Buford drives between two Delaware State defenders in the Buckeyes' 70-42 victory Thursday at St. John Arena. Buford scored 13 points.

Columbus -- Ohio State coach Thad Matta wanted freshman center B.J. Mullens and the four other Buckeyes newcomers up on the high dive for their first game of the season, Thursday night's 70-42 victory over Delaware State.

"I don't want him to test the water. I just want him to jump in," Matta said. "Not only him, a lot of the guys.
"Don't stick your toe in, let's jump in and get ourselves completely wet and away we go.
Young guys try to feel their way and this is such a young basketball team, we've got to say, 'Here we go and we'll figure it out as we get in.' "

Madsen is going to put some very good quality min's in this season
Madsen will get some minutes this year but I don't think they will be "quality" minutes. He has good skills but is somewhat limited athletically and I think when it is crunch time you either see one big guy (Dallas or BJ) and 4 small or 2 big guys (Dallas and BJ) and three small guys. I think Madsen is the type of guy who will give one of the bigs for a few minutes but will not see extensive playing time.

First time that I have ever seen Simmons and came away very impressed. I think anytime they play against a zone defense we will see him at the PG rather than Crater or at least I should say he will get more playing time when the other team is playing zone. The other guys did what I would have expected them to do with another year of practice under their belts. I would like them to get out of the zone defense and maybe they will as the season progresses.
