Game Thread tOSU @ Virginia Tech, Sep 7 2015 @ 8pm ET, ESPN

Above all, these guys have plenty of talent but they've suffered from inconsistent QB play as well as a lack of imagination in offensive scheme. It also didn't help that we lost our top 3 running backs to injury and forced us to become even more unbalanced on offense. Because of that, their stats won't blow you away but they certainly pass the "eye test" and are playmakers. We're all hoping they continue improving to their very high ceilings but, of course, only time will tell.
To me, one of the biggest differences between last year will be Va Tech's QB. It seemed like he miraculously pulled a quality game out of his ass in The Shoe and proceeded to be mostly awful the rest of the year.

It seems unlikely he'll pull a stellar game out of his ass two years in a row, and if he reverts back to his median play the Va Tech offense will likely be in some trouble.

Also the Ohio State offense will be much more capable of rolling with whatever Foster throws at them with an experienced line and QB- two things they were lacking last year.

Yeah, I can't really argue with any of that. I think we all realize that VT is a substantial underdog in this game, but if Brewer can at least limit turnovers and move the ball it will do wonders to keep our defense rested. If he can extend drives to give us multiple FG attempts, along with (hopefully) a few touchdown opportunities, we'll at least have a fighting chance.

tOSU's o-line and QB situation is dramatically improved from this time last year, but Foster will still be bringing the heat. Our secondary is the strength of this team so Foster gets cocky with blitz packages because he has a lot of trust in his guys in single coverage. It's a high risk / high reward strategy, and very well may backfire, but it's the only way we have a legitimate chance at winning this game.

I imagine the run game will be based largely on a triple option attack with a jet sweep-ish option to Braxton Miller (or one of many other options), and an up-the-gut/counter option to EzE or the QB.

It will be a game of chess all night with Va Tech's blitzes, but it seems likely Foster will get burnt at least a few times when he gets caught with the wrong blitz.

Another positive for OSU is how well JT Barrett reads a defense. I strongly assume he will be the QB based on his ability to run read option, combined with three WRs sitting out limiting Cardale's effectiveness to go downfield.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Cardale get in there as well to test Va Tech's secondary. OSU might be pleasantly surprised by some of the young burners, but in such a high pressure environment, I think that will be the change of pace to the triple read option bread and butter I mentioned above.

Kill beamer vol 1 or vol 2? I think vol 2 cause the osu O has learned the 5 step drop exploding heart technique and is going to use it on the hokie birds.

Apparently Bud Foster has backed off of his "they haven't seen a defense like ours", or something similar, comments he made a day or two ago when a reporter mentioned how Ohio State adjusted to the bear front as the season progressed last year.
