Essentially traded Tate Martell, Matthew Baldwin, and Dwan Mathis for Justin Fields and Chris Chugunov.

And as of now I don't know which side is the winner out of that deal. Fields is probably the best player right now, probably. Will he be the best in two years? I can't say thatEssentially traded Tate Martell, Matthew Baldwin, and Dwan Mathis for Justin Fields and Chris Chugunov.

I wasn't "looking at" the situation in any way, just stating the facts.Look at it the other way;
I'll take the Fields option 100 times out of 100
- Pass on Justin Fields
- Martell, Bladwin, Mathis are what you are going to war with in 2019
- Martell transfers anyway when Baldwin wins the job (assuming for a second that Baldwin isn't leaving for actual personal reasons)
- 2019 QB room is RS Fr Baldwin, FR Mathis and Chugunov
If I'm Day... I change my philosophy.It's been said that "Free Agencey" ruined pro football, are we seeing the same thing happen to college football? Surely the NCAA will have to look at the "Transfer Portal" and decide if changes are warranted or wanted.

For the record, I will take the Fields option as well, as he at least give the Buckeyes a chance to win big this year.
With that being said, just remember that your third-string QB is now Danny Vanatsky.

IIRC Baldwin was a project. He was a 3* and I think in the 20-25 range for pro style QB’s. It wasn’t until the final ranking that he was bumped to a 4 star.If I'm Day... I change my philosophy.
1. Recruit your guy
2. Recruit a project
The project isn't going to have as much of an urge to leave. Sure it leaves us with not a ton of quality on our depth chart but at least its someone. Think someone like Kenny G.
I think you just have to try to get a guy and set a different expectation with them from the very beginning - with Kenny Guiton being the absolute best possible example to pitch to a kid you need to provide depth but not necessarily start.
When did they not have that chance? The portal didn't begin player transfers. Don't mean to just single you out or argue over the 'ruin cfb' claim; simply don't understand this stance of player empowerment as they've always had the ability to transfer schools.Not a chance it "ruins" college football. It's great for young adults to have the chance to go where the best opportunity presents itself. It'd help if people stopped looking at these guys as nothing more than pieces on a chess board.
Agree this won’t “ruin” CFB. Disagree about looking at these guys as pieces on a chess board. With the newfound freedom and the movement of these kids, chess pieces they become. It’s more of a business than ever. Not here to say that’s bad, but the reality.Not a chance it "ruins" college football. Like college amateur sports were originally intended to be....You are going to need some of the type of kids that look at it as a free education first and football second, no doubt.
