tOSU Transfer Portal Recruiting Discussion

Not to put a sharp edge on it, but....if what I read is halfway true, is Marvin getting $20M from tOSU NILers? Read somewhere Marv might stay, as his first round NFL $ would be equal to what he's getting at tOSU. Not denying his incredible presence and talent, but we could buy two OTs, and at least one DL, and have some change left over.....just saying.

Thing is, at a place like OSU, the collectives should be able to raise money for both. I’m just saying. I don’t feel like this would even be a topic to discuss at Texas, Bama, UGA, etc.
But I think it’s nothing more than a rumor. As much as I’d love to be wrong, and see him wear the S&G one more time, I just can’t see him returning. Again, nothing more I’d love to see than him play another year, but I think the pull to be a pro is going to be tough.

It’s also looking like Day is going to roll with what he has on the roster at QB to start. With dominoes starting to fall for QBs, and reading the writing on the wall. Gabriel to OU, Leonard favored to ND, Ward hasn’t even been contacted by OSU, no interest in Moore, next to no news on Howard show that Day believes his current roster is stronger than the portal. And if anything a Gebbia type for depth and leadership is the best bet. And theres the Cotton Bowl to see what he has with Brown and Kienholz

Would really be surprised by this. I thought they would go for a 1 year rental and have a Kienholz/Noland competition in 2025.
This would mean that Day thinks Brown or Kienholz would be able by next year or he thinks the portal QBs are trash.
Personally, I was intrigued by Ward.

I think it would potentially throw the timing off of the QB room, leading to a possible loss of Keinholz. If they are big on him, this makes sense. Because it would give him the possibility of playing. If Noland comes in, then St. Clair, there is a 2 year cycle for each down the road.

Plus, Ward probably wants big money, and I don't think Day wants to be put in a place (again) where he feels pressured to start somebody. There is no way Ward would come in and accept competing, and the boosters expect some return on investment.

Timing would be no different than if McCord stayed for 2 years.
My concern is that Brown looked really bad in his brief outings. If Kienholz is great, then this is the right decision. Otherwise, I expect we’ll regret passing on a passer.

Agreed he did not impress at first, but there were definitely glimpses there. I don't think he had the opportunity to get better, which is fine, because McCord won the matchup (sorta from some of the stuff coming out).

Brown has other intangibles that McCord was missing. He is more fiery and a little more mobile than McCord.

Agreed Pnut. NIL shouldn't be a problem for tOSU, but too much smoke about not enough cash in the till. Don't believe there is anything like public disclosure, as not tied to any sort of public funding (state or federal $), so no requirement to share. Not certain how a public company like Nike can funnel so much cash to Oregon. Am I the only one concerned about roster numbers? Miyan only Buckeye that has declared for the draft. What, four players have run out of eligibility, and as of now have 22 recruits ready to sign in December. 14 portal players, maybe more by the time this missive hits the cloud. Would have thought more current Buckeyes would have declared for the draft, JT, Burke, Emeka, Trayveon (did read that he's returning), Sawyer, etc. Or those that are 'recusing' themselves from playing in a bowl game. I'm thinking that tOSU cannot chase any of the current portal folk, as there's too much NIL money tied up in current players, ergo cannot offer funds that are already in play. Interesting how lesser organizations can pony up more money than the university with the largest alumni base on the planet. Sitting on the edge of my chair, waiting to see how Day & Co fill the holes for next season. Go Bucks

Lol, but seriously, I wouldn’t too much about Day getting to 85. The players in the Portal needed to hit the Portal, OSU needs to start stacking talent, and the guys who left. We knew who they were and they didn’t produce, it happens. Hopefully they can somewhere else.
And I don’t think Nike per se is donating a bunch to Oregon, as much as Phil Knight being a major donor. And I believe since Nike sponsors Oregon athletics, they will get some more perks. But no different than Under Armour hooking up Maryland athletics because their CEO is an alum.
I also don’t think that many OSU players raised their draft stock this season. MHjr and Burke are the only 1st round talent on the team. IMO Egbuka and Treyveon would go more in the 2nd or 3rd round, JTT in the 3rd to 4th. The stats and consistent play just weren’t there for the best players. Even the guys without eligibility: Eichenberg, Chambers(?), Proctor, Jones, Johnson, I don’t see going higher than mid round. None of them stepped up and played lights out week in and out, there were flashes here and there, but nothing that would cause a GM to offer higher than a 3rd round at best for any of them.
And though OSU has the largest alumni base, many of that alumni could care less about football or even sports in general. I remember living in Austin, TX, and at first I assumed the entire city stopped, lived and died for Longhorn football. A lot of the city was indifferent to the football. I’m sure if there was a poll, I’d be curious to the entire alumni base, how many follow the football team. And out of those, who would actually put up a monthly payment(even if it’s a small one) to pay kids who are younger than them, a salary much more than their own. I think if the new NCAA idea of 2 divisions of CFB passes, the main point is for schools to revenue share with the teams. I know That there will be a lot of hoops to jump through to get this to pass and not fracture Title IX. But OSU alum don’t care about spending money for the football team like many teams in the south. I know it’s a tired cliche, but it is true. Those crazies in the south have no problem throwing money at their team. And they also have more big money donors willing to spend high numbers to land the 5stars and will spend money to just get them to visit their campus. Many of these kids don’t want to hear that they will get money when they get on the roster and more when/if they produce. They want it up front and when they sign. I can’t blame them. But OSU is sitting at the #2 overall class, so Day and Co are doing something right. So I know some like to throw their hands in the air and yell in frustration over the losses in recruiting, but OSU has won FAR more than they lost.

As recruiting rankings evolve, I'd like to see the breakdown of rankings per position group.

The wins are highly concentrated and so are the losses.
