2027 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Have always looked to the 'position ranking' of the recruits, and usually see a top 10 number with the Buckeye recruits. When see a much higher number, try to look a little deeper, maybe the recruit statistics (height, weight) to try to discern why the Buckeye coaches picked them. Probably a combination of art and science there....above my pay grade.

Ohio State has apparently been in recent contact with Louisville WR commit Ja’Hyde Brown who was recently named MVP of the entire Opening Finals.

Rivals MVP: WR Ja’Hyde Brown – Louisville commit
“From the very first snap today for Team Midwest, Brown continued his hot streak from yesterday. He caught the team’s first touchdown of the day and continued that all the way up to the semifinal game where he scored early and led the team in targets. Brown’s did it all this week. He stretched the field vertically, won at the intermediate levels and turned underneath catches into explosive plays. It just felt like Brown was the hottest receiver out on the field in every game he played.” – Cody Bellaire

Scouting report from 247:

Dynamic offensive weapon that has proven to be a chunk-play machine as he creates after the catch with his vision, burst and agility.
-Junior season saw him put up video game-like numbers as he led the state of Kentucky in receptions (98), receiving yards (1,556) and receiving touchdowns (24).
-Dangerous in the quick passing game as he can turn swing and screen passes into long gains with sudden movements.
-Positioned primarily on the inside, but has showcased the ability to win on the outside with his coordination and concentration.

@BuckBackHome :
I think LJsr has always taken the familial approach to recruiting. And it worked very well for decades. But with NIL, the grandpa role only goes so far when OSU was getting outbid by tens of thousands of dollars(if not more). It was said by many OSU insiders if OSU was able to open up check book and get creative to find ways for additional revenue, than we would see LJsr see more success. The '27 class is showing what he can do with an influx of money now(and the OSU athletic dept. realizing that there is no one enforcing anything).
@calibuck :
OSU(and pretty much all D1 programs) utilizes it's NIL for in house deals. BUT they also have access to outside funds from major corporations as well and that is also considered NIL. Your 5star talent is getting a bulk of their NIL from national brands, and little from the OSU collective. That's why OSU is able to match or come close to Tennessee's offer for DGG, or how they were able to secure JJ from Miami and still keep him. I'm sure Jamier Brown's biggest deal is through Adidas, and he'll make very little from the OSU collective. But someone like Jordan Donahoo may have most if not all his NIL come from the collective. But if he becomes a starter than I can see the collective fall back, but then some national brands contact him. I can see Isaiah West have a similar trajectory to that example if he's in the 2 deep the next few years(I could also see frosh like Boyd, Perez and Wilhelm possibly fitting in that scenario as well).

Dude's had more wake up calls than Bill Murray in Groundhog Day. Why does it always take a wake up call?
Would you prefer he didn't learn from his mistakes?
I was always told that the best thing a person could do is learn from one's mistakes. Would you prefer he kept Coombs at DC? I see that as an elite coach

Just so I'm following this shrewd analysis from a "narrative pusher" on twitter:

In his 24th season of coaching, Ryan Day learned that trench play is vital to success.

It's not an uptick in NIL resources.
It's not a shift in how they devote those resources.
It's not more effective recruiting techniques.

It's that he didn't value it enough before, but does now because a loss happened and it's a simple reason to point to in hindsight.

I'd prefer he didn't need to get beat to realize
- "oh.....i guess turtling in big games isn't a good idea" (Georgia)
- "oh.....i guess having the best passing weapons since 2019 LSU while playing against a team who's literally only strength on either side of the ball is stopping the run up the middle means i shouldn't try to constantly run up the middle" (Michigan)
- " oh....i guess offensive and defensive lines are important" (Miami apparently)

But how is that any different than Urban Meyer learning that maybe he should realize:
Maybe JT is a better QB than Cardale in 2015
Zeke is the best RB in CFB after losing to MSU in 2015
Tim Beck shouldn't be running my offense in 2016
Maybe hiring my buddies isn't the best hiring practice

It wouldn't be if the narrative after every single loss was "oh NOW he's learned" with Urban.

Ironically Bill and Dave talk about this subject starting at 14:20

I don’t know man. Some of the mistakes just seem so perplexing to me. Why did we think it was a good idea to run at Mason Graham 30 times?

Why didn’t we start using more intermediate routes and running up the middle sooner?

I guess my thing is if it’s so confusing and obvious to a casual fan how isn’t more obvious to a seasoned professional coach?

I don’t know man I wouldn’t trade him for anything and ultimately we are complaining about living in a 4 million dollar house instead of an 80 million dollar house.
