2027 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

All the big Rivals national guys did a roundtable and called their shots on big recruits. Ones that we're in on:
- 5* RB David Gabriel-Georges: Unanimous for OSU. One said it would be a stunner if it's not OSU.
- 5* WR Eric McFarland: Split. Some feel A&M, some think OSU still has the lead.
- 5* CB John Meredith: Unanimous for A&M
- 5* WR Monshun Sales: Unanimous for Bama

- 4* DT Marcus Fakatou: Unanimous for Michigan

Would expect a drop off in WR recruiting, sans Hartline, until the 'new guy' can prove himself with development. Not past practice (LSU), but current practice (tOSU). Or maybe the new gameplan is to NOT go whole hog on the 5* WRs, but take some higher 4* and develop into 5*s? Makes sense, but in the NIL world, who knows.....

I think the new recruiting model for WRs will be, pursue the highest ranked HSers and then hit the Portal. The days of relying solely on HS talent are over for the foreseeable future. That 4star from GA probably won't be able to help until year 2 or even 3, the transfer can help immediately on the field, and could also offer valuable leadership that a true frosh or RS frosh cannot. The 2025 class for example, was filled with guys who wouldn't contribute until year 2(Porter) or up to year 3 or 4(Miller and Bell). McCuin and Parker are fighting to start already and have been Buckeyes for a few months

After watching our two 5* RFreshmen transferring out, force myself to remember that these kids have been idolized all their lives. Then getting elevated to a superior college team (tOSU), and riding the pine can be quite a blow to their egos. Also had been recruited by teams that guaranteed them playing time as freshmen, but opting to go to tOSU to learn, grow, and develop. Dunno, maybe the lure of big NIL $ changed their minds, or looking up and deciding that their path to starting was murky. Hard to say. And always a possibility that a player could be recruited over them further pushing them down the line-up. Wish tOSU would conduct exit interviews, and then publish them....

I hear you, but I don't think publishing exit interviews would be ethically right. But everything you stated could be a reason for a kid to transfer. Athletes at this level have massive egos, and who can blame them. They can fart and its all over social media with thousands of comments, and its been that way for many of them since 8th or 9th grade. The funny part is, they will always be promised whatever the team they're currently on isn't providing. If you're sitting to develop, well another school can promise you PT. If you're being paid $500k, another team will offer $1mil, etc. And wherever they go, they'll always be recruited over. If we're referencing the WRs who left OSU for ND, I can guarantee that there's 0 chance Freeman doesn't still pursue top WRs in HS and the Portal

Pretty certain that HR would object strenuously if the Exit Interview were to be 'leaked' to the newsies. Confidential and all. At least when was done. Certainly don't know if that's done anymore, probably not, as you opine. Was speaking from 'a fly on the wall' perspective. In the FWIW category, was always under the impression that tOSU never promised a recruit a starting spot, x amount of plays, etc. when they were wooing a recruit to play at The Ohio State. Or maybe I've simply forgotten, or wish my university was above that sort of thing. 'All we can promise is that you will have an opportunity to compete for playing time' sort of thing.....Guess these recruits might need a 'bullshit' detector when listening to these recruiters spin a yarn or two....Thanks for the thoughts, kinda put in perspective for me. Thanks.

With no visits this week with Spring Break. A quick recap of top events from this past week:

Stock Up:
DT Marcus Fakatou - His first visit to campus went extremely well. We have a great chance now in this one.
Elite Safeties - We knocked it out of the park with Gamble and Aparicio-Bailey, and will be getting OV’s from both.
Caden Moss - Long-time top target for Bowen made it back to campus. We’re now in the mix with Bama and Ole Miss. If he’s graded as a “1st Rd Pick”, we can win this.
Sean Currie - Decommitted from UVA, and is looking like a PSU vs OSU battle.
Khalil Taylor - Re-offered by Hankton a few weeks ago, and visited this week. Says he will take an OV now.
OT Options - Bowen has set things up nice with an army of guys who visited this week. Some with offers, and some he’s still evaluating. Plenty of good options to choose from.
CB Options - Moon, Malone, and Telfair all visited this week. Just need 1 of them in this class (or Jaden Carey) to pair with Woods.
Being smart at Edge - Munir Lewis Visited and was offered. We already have a 1st Rd Pick in this class, and great Edges in the prior two classes. I’m glad LJ is giving himself more realistic options.

Stock Down:
OLB Options - AJ Randle was already going to be an expensive battle with Miami and FL. And now he visited Oregon and loved it and wants to run track. Elsewhere, Nelson got predicted to TT. And Igwebuike left us off his visit list.
Kasi Currie - On the positive side, he continues to list OSU in his top3. Which is great, since he hasn’t even been on campus yet. But he just made it back to TX again for the 2nd time to two months. TX insiders say he’s the #1 prospect on their board. We’ve seen how reckless they can be on spending for guys they truly want. Even if he loves the visits to us, it’s hard to see us outspending TX.

Mekai Brown - Initially said he wasn’t going to visit his top3 of OSU, USC, and TN this spring as he’s already been to them. Then this week randomly added a trip to USC anyways. With his dad being from LA, this one looks like it’s trending USC.
