Recap of coaches visits this week. After the last wave next week before the dead period, I’ll post a full recap of all visits from Jan and last fall, as well as what I think the big board of the staff’s priorities are.

Patricia - Brody McNeel, Rashad Streets, Quinton Cypher, Mekai Brown, Mikahi Allen
Guerrieri - Jayden Aparicio-Bailey, Junior James, Zayden Gamble, Jaden Carey, Turmarian Moreland
LJ - Joseph Buchanan, Chris Whitehead, Rashad Streets, Karlos May
Walt - John Meredith, Taelyn Mayo, Zayden Gamble, Jaden Carey
Laurinaitis - AJ Randle, Mikahi Allen, Grant Bowen (‘28) (I’d be surprised if he also didn’t stop by to see Roman Igwebuike since he was already in Chicago).
Fess - Christopher Vargas (’28), Liam Conlon (‘28 - LB), Champ Monds, Brock Williams
Lock - SaRod Baker, Lathan Whisenton, Wayne Shanks

Heard an opinion on Morning 5. The 'big' schools may not recruit the 3*'s as heavily, as in the project kids. Apparently the thought is that teams save on NIL, and use for the 'upper' 4/5*s with more/easier (?) developmental potential. And when portal time comes around, recruit those kids that were developed at 'lesser' schools, who have already shown out. Seems solid at first blush. Ohio State, down 31 portal exits, up 20+ portal entries. And total roster seems to be still in upper 80s (around 88 I believe), instead of the 105 (?) NCAA allows. There was 28 in recruiting class, which is above the former max of 25. Know that these above numbers are/were fluid, and seem to change daily. Pantoni may be adding another line to his resume, called something like 'Roster Maximization' or somesuch. Cleaning out the guys that 'haven't grown enough', 'shown enough', 'not going to be relied on' or some euphemism.

Yeah, this has been talked about some during the Portal being open. Big HS classes will be a thing of the past, OSU more than likely only brings in HSers that can contribute by year 2 at best. The rest of the roster will be older transfers. I was going to break this down more in the overall OSU recruiting thread

It’s cheaper to buy development than to hit and miss developing yourself.

Fong says in his latest article that OSU is “in the thick of it” with some top edges to join Jacobs in the class. He says Chris Whitehead has us extremely high on his list. Mentions Rashad Streets as another edge we’re pushing for. Fong says he has a prediction in for Abraham Sesay but mentions we’ll have to see how his process shakes out

Remember what that old Buckeye legend, John Cooper once opined.....If you miss on a kid, and he plays for the opposition, you only see him once a year. If you miss on a kid and he's on your team, you gotta see him every day. Kinda like a Yogi-ism to me, but Yogi was always accurate. (90% of short puts don't go in). Anyway, can see the writing on the wall, let some of the 'tweener' kids make their bones in the lesser leagues, and then enter the portal sweepstakes to try and snag those that stand out.

I would throw whatever money I could at Honor Fa’slave-Johnson. Elite safety and insane speed for returns.
