2026 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Birm hinted at a 3rd RB in this class again this morning, the RB is committed to another school and the coaches stopped by to see him last week. He’s supposed to be at the Penn State game if I recall correctly.
The plan might be 3 in this class after taking 3 last class and then just going after one huge fish in 2027, which is why Day accompanied Lock to see Spell and DGG on Friday.

There are 19 RB offers in this class, Akih and Latimer are already penciled in the class so 17 others left. Doesn’t sound like the secret recruit is a big fish due to the emphasis on landing one in 2027 so remove the main names like Hiter, Cooper, Crowell, etc.
I also don’t see one flipping from top schools like ND, Alabama, A&M, Oregon, etc so that leaves these possibilities:

Jones is interesting, Lock offered him the first month he was hired last year and they’re both from Alabama. Lock used that Alabama connection and pre existing relationship to land Turbo Rogers last class.

Same high school as Quinshon Judkins.

Per 11w poster:
Wiltfong says that Carsyn Baker is looking at Georgia Tech and keeping in contact with Kentucky and UNC. I doubt he’s the third running back we are keeping in contact with.

*Weekend Visit Primer*:
‘26 Targets:
UNC DL commit Jimmy Alo-Suliafu - Epi Sitanilei’s cousin
FSU CB commit Jay Timmons - FSU legacy. Lives with mom and two younger siblings in Pittsburgh. Stay close to home vs taking a risk on coaching change in Tallahassee?

Neb CB commit Danny Odem - discrepancy on if he’ll actually visit. Visited Neb last week and now visit up in the air due to a school dance? Might reschedule to UCLA game.

How are the BP recruiting gurus feeling about this class, especially the RBs?
NiL, Portal and coaching openings have made recruiting more fluid than ever before. With that being said, I like where OsU sits better than most programs in CFB. I’d say right now the class sits like this:(and others can feel free to correct me)

QB- Fahey is a gem, and can push St. Clair in the future
RB- Akih is talented, but with how 2 frosh have cemented themselves at the top 2, I can see some departures and the need for 1-2 more commits
WR- the best class in the country(I know shocking)
TE- lost Fordham as only TE in class. This class can survive no signees if Klars returns
OL- Greer is a studs, Riley will be a solid contributor in several years, but the rest are projects. And not sure if Thomas stays in the class. Bowen is a relentless recruiter though.
DL- Wilder is a stud, but another 1-2 DEs will be needed. Not sure if Brickle stays in the class(rumors have been floating ), but another DT will be needed as well
LB- Johnson and Sanna are both very talented and will be given chances on special teams to start. Caldwell growth will make this class interesting along with the S class
CB- Need another 2, but Thomas is a stud
S- if Caldwell does stay at S, then this is a very strong class

There could be another 5-7 commits

Birm said people he has talked to does not expect Jimmy Alo-Suliafu visit to be rescheduled.

Let’s finish this DL class with Quinn, Finch and Ruffin.

Birm asked and was told the staff would take all 3 of Emanuel Ruffin, Dre Quinn and JJ Finch along with the 4 DL that are already in the class.

I love it, stack the trenches.

UCLA weekend will be a huge weekend for Larry Johnson, Quinn and Finch taking an OV and the possibility of Ruffin being there as well.

Per Birm, it’s not looking like we will want to take two more RBs, and it will be whichever target wants to commit first out of Legend Bey or Amari Latimer. The thought is it will be Bey. TN is recruiting him as a WR. A&M was pushing for a flip this fall and also wanted him at WR.

Regarding Timmons, it just needs to get across the finish line (finalizing $ talk). Even the FSU insider thinks he’ll flip to us.

news is fast and furious

Birm and Mick Walker saying they expect the class size to finish at 30, based on conversations they’ve been having with sources. That leaves around 9 open spots:
RB - Legend Bey, potentially someone else as Birm said previously the staff has backup options if Latimer goes elsewhere.
TE - still chipping away at Mack Sutter
OL - Kevin Brown
DL - Emanuel Ruffin, Dre Quinn, JJ Finch ideal finish
LB - Braxton Rembert
DB - Jay Timmons and CJ Bronaugh

Another interesting note, apparently Birm said in the past Ohio State has their eye on a RB and is watching to see if they enter the portal.

The switch to taking 2 RBs this class instead of 3, could be a sign that their guy will hit the portal.
