It’s really important for people to remember that next year schools can have up to 105 scholarship players. Obviously an extra (20) scholarships from the current 85 limit.
Many schools are already at 35+ commits in anticipation of this.
I just don’t think OSU has interest in bringing that many freshmen in….I truly think it’s kind of a waste of everyone’s time and resources. Especially when a revenue share of TV money ($20M) will be split amongst the roster.
I’m interested to see how it plays out but the #9 recruiting class doesn’t bother me a single bit if the players coming in fit the culture….
It lets you stockpile Ohio OL, who clearly have magical powers. Rather than spending all of your war chest on one high school OT that has been blocking 200 lb future lacrosse players.Just at first pass, the 105 thing is going to help the Iowa's of CFB a lot more than the elite teams (depending on $).
Gives the smaller guys the chance to stockpile more 3 star developmental projects and spreading the wealth with that type of guy isn't that big a deal (it would seem).
Big guys OTOH, could use it as a chance to develop their own extra 20 projects if they can offset the rev share dilution with NIL money for the rest of the roster. Then again, the big guys may not want to even bother with all the work you have to put into an extra 20 guys every year just to maybe hit on 20-30% of them. Those teams just go get new talent from the portal (after the Iowa school develops them)
I don't know. I hope it works in a way that gets more HS kids a roster spot/an old fashioned scholarship. That much I do know.
