2025 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

There's no reason to get excited about a commit until they sign now. Schools mean nothing anymore. These kids are paid professionals that will go to the highest bidder. I'm not saying there's anything wrong about that on the kids' part at all, but CFB isn't what it was. It's a training ground for the NFL.

LOL! You do realize that almost the entire OSU doesn't fit that scenario AT ALL! I'm sure if you ask Tavien St. Clair, Devin Sanchez, Carter Lowe, Bo Jackson, Riley Pettijohn, Quincy Porter, etc if the school matters, they will tell you a resounding YES! Offord has been a rumored flip for months, you can't tell me you're surprised. I literally gave everyone a synopsis of the class last night and Offord and West were not in this class. Nothing should be a surprise today for the most part for Buckeye fans today

And CFB has always been a training ground for the NFL, fans just wanted to keep the wool over their eyes

Yep, we shouldn’t even consider someone commitment. It’s just a placeholder

watch what they do and not what they say

early verbal from a Southern recruit just means you're in their top 5

'Crootin
I know it's Crootin, but the last few years we've done the "get everyone committed early then hang on for dear life until signing day" .... maybe it's time to stop that? It would force/allow continued scouting of other folks, and stop this getting left holding the bag on signing day. So we're not two months before signing day chasing OL or DBs .... I dont know if we'd been recruiting the DB Woods but it feels like "we're losing Offord oh crap who's someone we can flip quickly" and there's no real relationship or connection there at all... I know in most cases now its about bags and bags of cash but still... its the same thing over and over.

As this thing evolves it seems clear that OSU is going to have to take a small-mid market approach to talent acquisition.

They aren’t going to be able to outspend others for the top talent so you better put some resources toward scouting and development.

There are few, if any, rules right now. Go build a feeder system from smaller schools. Pay them to steer late bloomers who are now OSU level, to OSU. Get creative with finding HS talent that isn’t at the camp circuit. Throw some brain power and money at a walk on program that will work in the new era

( I bet you could buy a lot of 3 star projects for 50k and stash them at a MAC school who can’t pay them anything)

Stuff like this is what a GM at Ohio State should be focused on. One guy builds the roster, another guy coaches it. They of course work together on talent and scheme being complementary.
