2024 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I really wish we would see an emphasis on OL recruiting. It's by far the weakest link of this team and nothing in recruiting is showing any changes to that. Maybe it's something we'll dedicate ourselves to in the portal
I mean I'm sure they are trying. They aren't just going screw O-line guys. But for some reason people aren't buying what they are selling

Obviously the '24 class is very good on paper (top 3 no matter how you slice it currently), but it will be interesting to see what happens down the stretch. Some of notable misses on guys we led for or were in serious contention for might be greatly alleviated by other prospects the staff has targeted.

On OL, Baker stings but we are making a late run at Seaton, which would be even better if we pull it off imo. Nave I really didn't care about the decommit and I don't see any drop off with Van Sickle or the other current targets. At DE, the numerous misses on guys that looked promising was frustrating (namely Stewart and Lightfoot) but Amaris Williams I think is an equivalent pickup and that is looking more likely by the day. Then at safety, KJ Bolden is kind of tough to match as he is the top safety in the nation and imo deserves discussion for top player overall...but McClain I am really high on, Roker was a nice addition and if we can get Perich, that'll work nicely in Knowles' defense.

Now I know this finish is not highly likely, but the staff has rolled with the punches this cycle to try and address those needs with quality prospects after missing on some guys at key positions.

Larry Johnson is set to bring in the strongest DL class in 2024!
DT Justin Scott, DT Eric Mensah, DT Carlon Jones
EDGE Eddrick Houston, EDGE Amaris Williams

I know that I'm supposed to freak out about "possibly" losing a VERY talented WR. But I've seen some of the top WRs in CFB not win championships without a dominant DL/OL. As long as the trenches are shored, then I'm a happy man. Because that will win OSU more games and championships than relying solely one skill position players from one group. I've watched UGA win 2 consecutive NCs with good skill position play but GREAT OL/DL play. MHjr's play means nothing without the OL keeping McCord upright and the DL wrecking havoc on the offense

With you on that. I almost would rather have a couple stud OLs than ANOTHER 5* WR this year. Take the NIL to the OL and come back next year for a WR. Get the lines straight and all is good.

Problem is the stud OL are pretty much all off the board at this point for '24 (especially since it looks like Seaton is unlikely), so unless there is a big time portal OL to throw the NIL money at then I'm not sure that is an option. Plus Smith is the #1 player overall for a reason, probably the best WR prospect since Julio tbh, so even with all the WR talent we have he is a likely game changer no matter what. I agree OL is a much higher priority in '24 and '25 though, we are just out of targets pretty much other than when Van Sickle likely flips.

But on the DL recruiting, presuming Amaris flips to OSU then I am very happy with this DL class. What would really make it awesome is if we could somehow land Willor, who is visiting in December. We most certainly could use another DE in this class and especially a more true edge rusher like Willor.

Can’t disagree. That said, I’m not a micro manager. I’m more interested in the what and less in the how… provided it’s all above board.

Yeah I have no idea how the NIL collectives are actually working and what is being offered. I will say this to your point and @pnuts34 , if it was a matter of landing Seaton or Smith with limited NIL resources, I would push all my chips at Seaton for sure due to need.

But after a couple big recruiting weekends, figured I should update my predicted class:

QB: Air Noland
RB: James Peoples
RB: Jordan Lyle (going to have some last minute drama per your usual Florida recruit, but as of right now I have him in this class)
RB: SWD
WR: Jeremiah Smith (I'm not going to say extreme confidence he ends up here, but more likely than not at this point...I agree with the sentiment that if Hartline and Day are here on NLOID then I see him sticking with us)
WR: Mylan Graham
WR: Jeremiah McClellan (seems like the Mizzou talk has died down a little bit, I expect him to be a Buckeye)
TE: Demarion Witten
TE: Max Leblanc
OL: Ian Moore
OL: Devontae Armstrong
OL: Deontae Armstrong

OL: Gabe Van Sickle (seems like any day he should flip...I think he will be our last OL in this class and we hit the portal for an OT)
DE: Amaris Williams (I am confident on Amaris being in this class when I formerly had him as somewhat of a stretch, and a huge late addition)
DE: Eddrick Houston
DE/DT: Carlon Jones (likely a DT but I see the flip coming)
DT: Justin Scott
DT: Eric Mensah
LB: Garrett Stover
LB: Payton Pierce
DB: Aaron Scott
DB: Bryce West
DB: Miles Lockhart
DB: Jaylen McClain
DB: Leroy Roker (unexpected addition but a nice add for a guy with upside)

DB: Koi Perich (really the big name to add, Koi would be a great addition and round out an amazing DB class...feeling confident on him being a part of this class)

- Two names notably absent are Jordan Seaton and Chance Robinson. Seaton I am about convinced will not end up here absent a huge pile of NIL money coming his way. Robinson is a very real possibility and I was tempted to list him, but think that may partially depend on what Smith does. Willor is another I would love to add at DE and he is visiting in a few weeks, Lawrence seems like a no-go. Last possible name is Nicholas Rodriguez (Mizzou commit) that visited recently, I could see adding a third LB if it is someone like him.
