2022 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I watched some film on Henry. I’m actually really impressed with how well he moves. And I think it was when he was still around 350. Then I noticed some of his basketball pics and my goodness he’s a big dude! Not just in stature. But his hands make the ball look like one of those mini basketballs.

I know he’s a bit of a project. But so was Thayer and so was Dawand. Henry could be one of those diamonds in the rough. IMO, he moves too well to be Leroux. I like this offer.

Disagree.

Being ranked higher than any of our OT’s outside of NPF and Johnson with offers from the likes of Bama, UK, Miami, MSU, Minnesota, Tennessee and Pitt doesn’t scream “project” to me.

He was down to UK & Pitt until Jake Moretti flipped to Colorado and OSU offered. He wasn’t a take for most of those schools and was only being recruited after losing a commit. Couple that with the fact that he barely played his senior year, had questions about his work ethic, and the weight issues certainly screamed project. It’s clearly paid off, but how many people pegged him as a 4 year starter?

That was the prevailing thought amongst OSU fans and even some insiders. I’m not saying one person proves my point, at all. But this post in Thayer’s thread from 2018 echos the popular thought at the time.

Funny how recruiting works sometimes. Wasn't he supposed to be the project/reach while Myers and Davis were the surefire All-Americans? Still really early in all their careers obviously but interesting nonetheless

I’m going to have to agree to disagree with you on this one. A “project” in my opinion is a kid like Avery, Trey Leroux, Jakob James, Dawand Jones, etc.

Do you view Michalski and Fitzpatrick, both of whom are ranked lower than Thayer, as projects?

I, personally, view nearly all HS OL as projects outside of maybe 2 or 3 guys a year. Coaching and development is paramount on the OL. Some guys are better balls of clay to mold than others, but they’re all projects.

Thayer was offered after it was clear Trey Smith was headed to Tennessee. If Trey committed to OSU and Thayer wasn’t on the team, do you think OSU’s OL would have been better?

We offered a 22 LB out of Illinois (Rolder) last night.

Pretty light offer list.

I read he was committed to Illinois for baseball.
I posit he is off the radar because he didn't run going to those to stupid flag football camps (Team Alpha Male).

I reviewed his highlights and they look solid.
I know what I'm looking at, I don't climax over over every person's highlight reel like most of you do.

If you can’t see the difference between your second choice being ranked around 300 as compared to 800-1000, I don’t know what to tell you.

Stud is lazy on the recruiting trail. We all know that. It hasn’t shown up yet on the field. Maybe it will soon. When/If it does, one would hope he’d be looking for a new job or looking to retire. Not sure this program can afford to wait for that drop but that’s where we are at.

Neither guy we’re discussing was/is the second choice. But, you don’t have to tell me anything. We have a different philosophy with regards to OL recruiting. The player’s ranking is the least of my considerations.
