2021 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I can deal with a stress-free signing day and let the SEC and others deal with all that drama. Just inked what might be the best recruiting class we've ever had and under the circumstances involved with 2020, it is downright remarkable what this staff has done with this class. Best part is that its not done either, I still have high confidence JT becomes a Buckeye and while Leigh is a longshot, we will pursue until the end on that one.

Also - I will have my BRPT signing day special up this week and per our recent trend, allow others to submit their own editions. Its one of my favorite things about this site and we gotta keep it going

As someone who doesn't monitor recruiting with the same borderline obsession as I had at the ~2005 - 2015 era watching this today is worth reflection...

...this is an incredible evolution of this program from "blue blood in the waiting" to "perennial contender and NFL factory"...

...at the time we lost our minds over bringing in Terrelle Pryor - and now we have multiple players of that calibur in each class...

...all of that has also been done while keeping the buckeye family feeling like the buckeye family from when I was on campus...

...just a reflection on how far we've come. For as much stick as we gave him in the past, Gene Smith has really played the long game, and has done a phenomenal job.

I'm still obsessed haha, but the recruiting is just at unprecedented levels. We've expanded our national reach and our name brand couldn't be any stronger. My dad doesn't follow recruiting quite as closely as I do and he was talking about how we have landed guys from Texas, California and Florida before Urban came here. I told him that's true, but not to the level we are now (maybe with the exception being Florida if you throw out IMG), plus we're going into states we almost never plucked top prospects from (Washington, Kansas, North Carolina, Colorado and even Idaho for Togiai). All that is while we get basically every guy in Ohio we want. Golden age of recruiting here and I'm just basking in it.

It's been said before but the job Pantoni has done is next world....guy is worth his weight in gold. Then beyond Pantoni, you have a world class strength and conditioning coach in Coach Mick, and then our coaching staff is just elite. Hartline has been an absolute HR, Larry Johnson and Al Washington are studs, and Coombs is just a maniac. And not to go unnoticed, but you add an NFL DC in Mattison who gets rave reviews from the players, and it's just a perfect assembly.

The only downside is Mattison and LJ both being close to retirement.....those are going to be some massive shoes to fill.

Will more recruits join the class?

Pantoni was asked if he expects that Ohio State will end up with more than 21 recruits in its class when it is all said and done.

“Well, we’re going to see after the season here if we have any attrition come up and plug in some high school kids that aren’t signed yet,” Pantoni said. “Or looking in the portal. Or once this one-time transfer rule gets passed, if there’s great players out there that fit our culture and there’s a need, we’re definitely going to look into different options."

As @Merih mentioned... quite a transition we've seen over the years. I found BP in the middle of the TP recruitment and have, much to some of your chagrins, stuck around. From that time we've gone from crossing fingers and hoping for positive flips in our direction to warp speed under Urban to whatever the heck Doc Brown time-travel-warp-speed-thing we're seeing now that frankly, is fun and totally without anxiety.

I'll take what we've got going now and be very thankful.
