Just look at the recruiting rankings and how they match up with final polls each of the past few years, and really it's been the same 6-8 teams year-in year-out, with a few exceptions, for the past decade.
A few ranking spots here or there isn't going to win or lose a Natty, it's bringing in top 5 classes consistently each and every year that will keep OSU right with Clemson. I think OSU will be just fine.
To your point though, as long as the top 6-8 schools continue to recruit at a high level like they are, we are going to continue to see the same schools in the CFP every year and continue to seperate from the pack.

I’m not picking on anyone...so please don’t take it that way...but this Clemson meltdown across the Ohio State fanbase has been one of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen. After this weekend people are acting like there’s this massive gap and questioning Ohio State’s methods. We basically have the same class, but since they got 4 guys off a Junior day rather than spread out it’s panic time. It’s everywhere. Every site. Since we’re not the best, something’s wrong.
Like @mendensa said, Day and company will consistently bring in top 5 classes which is more than enough to compete with anyone.

I agree. I think it's still the after-effect of the CFP loss, and the nice little stretch of top names that have popped up on Clemson's verbal commitment board all at once.
I do feel where the concern lies with some is the fact that Clemson has experienced a nice stretch of success and yet their recruiting classes have only been ranked really high for the past few years. It isn't like Bama, who has been either #1 or #2 for like 7 of the last 8 or 9 years. So naturally, everyone assumes they are going to continue to dominate with this run of better players.
They will def be in the hunt each year, especially with that ACC conference schedule (unless the Crimi-Noles, Cryami, or someone else in that conference steps up), but I really don't think teams like Bama, UGA, and OSU are going anywhere and will hang right there with them. Same for OU, as long as Riley is there, in the BIG 12. They will continue to be in the equation each year just based off who their competition is each week and getting the players to fit in that offense.
