tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Ohio State has an elite roster heading into this season. It might be the best, most complete roster in the country.

That was proven over the weekend, when ProFootball Focus listed its top 50 players in college football for this season. And the Buckeyes were tied with Alabama for the most players in that top 50 — each school has four players on the list.

Wide receiver Chris Olave was the No. 10 player and the No. 1 wide receiver, while fellow wide receiver Garrett Wilson was No. 13 overall and the second-best wide receiver returning. Starting left tackle and future NFL draft pick Thayer Munford made the list as the No. 14 player returning, while defensive tackle and returning All-American Haskell Garrett made the list at No. 21.

No other Big Ten school had more than one player on the list, and nobody had more players than Ohio State, proving the Buckeyes roster is as elite as any in the country.

However, there are some key counterpoints that go along with this:
  1. Texas is about an 8-4 team in the Big 12. Does anyone think that's going to improve in the SEC? Are the state's top prospects really going to flock to a Longhorn program that may very well be struggling to win more than six games?
  2. Ohio State will continue to run the Big Ten and will be one of the favorites to make the playoff each and every year. Winning is good for recruiting. Playoff appearances are even better.

Although it’s a new recruiting service, On3, founded by Shannon Terry who made major contributions to Rivals and 247Sports, has garnered a good deal of attention since their brand began earlier this year.

The top three services for recruiting rankings — at least until the new On3 platform is officially up and running — are 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN. Of course, ESPN is behind the curve and hasn’t released team rankings for 2021 yet, but the other two are constantly updating to give fans up to the minute news about where classes stand.

Had not heard of On3 before. Is On3 the "new (recruiting) kid on the block"?
