NCAA DIVISION I COUNCIL VOTES TO EXTEND RECRUITING DEAD PERIOD THROUGH MAY 31

Any official and unofficial visits that high school prospects, notably in the 2022 and 2023 classes, had hoped to take during the spring will not be taking place.

Many Ohio State commits, targets and players hoping to get offers had planned on visiting Columbus in April, specifically for the weekend of April 16-18. That is when Ohio State is hoping to hold its spring game, and it was expected to be the first weekend of a proposed quiet period that was to run from April 16-May 31. Commits such as C.J. Hicks and Dasan McCullough were expected to visit that weekend and invite several targets to Columbus that weekend, including players such as 2022 Georgia running back target Damari Alston.

Today's news wipes out the hopes of a Buckeye Bash 2.0 being held at Ohio Stadium this spring. Similar to what the program's 2021 class did last October, Ohio State's 2022 group of commits has been looking to gather as many commits and targets on campus and in the athletics facilities as possible in a big recruiting weekend. Those hopes will now be pushed back to the summer as the dead period continues to see extensions.

Outside of the 2022 cycle, five-star 2021 defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau was the biggest headliner of potential visitors this spring. Ohio State is the lone school in his final five that he has not yet been to with Alabama, Washington, Oregon and USC all having hosted him previously.

This feels really lazy at this point. Just manadate teams pay for daily testing on visits and they are tested the night before and possibly the morning before they meet with coaches... It's not that hard but nope no visits till pandemic is over cause testing is too hard even though we just did it with football and are now doing it with basketball.

No joke, this is just ridiculous. You've still got kids like JTT who haven't got a chance to visit some of their top schools due to a rule that makes zero sense. These are huge decisions for these recruits and they are getting cheated out of making an informed decision by arbitrary and baseless rules.

And Jeans Smith just sits there, mouth shut.....
I’m no fan of how Gene Smith has handled various things in the past, but in the world of actually getting shit done, being a loudmouth who publicly puts the people in charge on blast isn’t actually a great way to convince them to do things differently, despite getting lots of attention from people who cheer that kind of thing for “doing something.”

He’s not up for election.

Who knows what Smith is or isn’t doing behind the scenes, but if he’s putting out public statements being critical of the NCAA I’d say there is basically zero chance of that convincing them to do anything differently, either because Smith knows that and is distancing himself from the decision (which is still stupid because he needs to work with the same people at the NCAA in the future) or because he’s incompetent and doesn’t understand how to work with other people.

Bottom line, his public silence on this doesn’t indicate anything about what he is or is not doing.

This seals it. The NCAA is officially a clown show at this point.
This is the tipping point for you?

You should have made two posts out of that so I could have liked them both.

Is OSU college football's new "WRU?" What the Buckeyes' massive talent spike means for B1G, Playoff contenders

Once Ryan Day finished licking his wounds after the national championship, one would assume he looked at his group of returning wide receivers and had a realization.

Goodness, that’s an absurd amount of talent.

Day’s team boasts Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson, who Pro Football Focus just ranked as the top 2 returning receivers in America. In addition to Wilson, Ohio State now has 4 former 5-star recruits in the receiver room. In all, 9 of Ohio State’s top 10 wideouts were once top-15 receivers and top-100 recruits in their respective classes. Olave, AKA PFF’s top returning receiver in America, was the lone non-blue chip recruit among those 10.

That group includes Emeka Egbuka, who signed with Ohio State as the No. 1 receiver in the 2021 class. Egbuka committed to Ohio State 5 days before the Early Signing Period began. Why did the Steilacoom, Washington, native commit to a program 2,500 miles from home?

“I think he wants to go to the most difficult situation possible,” Egbuka’s Steilacoom High School coach Colby Davies told The Athletic after his commitment. “He wants to challenge himself. I think he wants to go into the deepest receiver room he can possibly be in and he wants to be pushed every day.”

Egbuka’s pledge and subsequent signing came a couple of weeks after Ohio State got a commitment from the No. 1 receiver in the 2022 class, Caleb Burton. In a year, he’ll join what’s quickly become as deep and talented a position group as any in America.

The question is worth asking — is Ohio State suddenly “WRU” for recruits?
