tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Wouldn't be ideal going into next season with Fields, Baldwin and Chugunov but I'm not sure who they are going to be able to land given the talent pool left.

I threw out some names in this post : https://www.buckeyeplanet.com/forum/threads/tosu-recruiting-discussion.648320/page-26#post-3120881

QB - One interesting name out there is Messiah deWeaver, who is back on the market after being at EMCC where he put up decent stats including a 68% completion percentage. Originally from Wayne HS in Dayton for those that don't remember. I don't see OSU chasing him but thought it was worth mentioning. An uncommitted guy I really like is Sam Saxton out of Austin, TX. Originally committed to Southern Miss but backed off that pledge in early December. Has offers from several Ivy League schools as well as some schools like New Mexico and Rutgers. Very accurate and athletic. I think he is very underrated. Another name I like is Knox Kadum from Rome, GA. He was waiting on LSU to offer and that never happened. Then he was in the discussion as the second possible QB for UGA this class but that never happened. Has offers from Rutgers, Akron, Charlotte, etc. One last name is Nathan Lamb from California. UCLA was kicking the tires but they were waiting on Jayen Daniels, who signed with ASU. Lamb threw for a ton of yards this all, has a quick release, good size and is a student of the game. Has offers from Oregon State, Nevada, SDSU, etc.

The problem is if you just go take a body to be at 4, you are going to have to recruit over him shortly thereafter.

I'd just look for another Chuganov/grad transfer type or maybe say screw it and find one of the uber athletes on the roster that played HS QB and run some wildcat stuff if it gets so bad that they end up needing the 4th QB.

I'm probably missing something though.

meaning more so that you'll have better talent available in '20 and want to "manage the roster"

I still operate from the mindset that you want to be careful cutting people but that seems less and less impactful as time goes on

I know Day said he would always like to have 4 QB's on the roster. Seems to me that having 4 elite QB's on the same roster is never going to work. Unlike other positions who u sub in and out and have multiple players on the field at the same position, there is only 1 ball.... therefore one QB. "The Guy". It's one thing to have a stud waiting in the wings, but to have 2-3 of them sitting and waiting for their chance is unrealistic.

Once the QB recruiting picked up and this offense took off under Meyer/Day it was inevitable that we were going to start seeing the revolving door of QB's transferring in and out.

Would hate to lose Tate's talent though.

From many first hand observances, if we had to go to Chugunov... kid will not hurt you... very cerebral... won't say no mistakes but if he was 6'4 you'd have heard of him before OSU
I agree. Also, last bowl season was hearing a lot about Kory Curtis lighting it up in practice so much so it made me look up his high school stats: Florida baller.
