I just can't even imagine what it would be like to be a major recruit/commit in the Shoe for this game. Unreal
Thoughts on the transition:
First off let me say that Ryan Day was not my first choice but I get why this decision was made. I was definitely in the "Bring me Matt Campbell" camp. Having said that I've had some time to digest everything and I am certain of one thing: this move offers the smoothest transition from both a program and recruiting standpoint.
My first thought was "have to keep the support staff". And it sounds like that is happening. Pantoni and Marotti were the first two I thought about. To hear that not only are they staying but also that Stamper and Voltolini are staying is huge. Absolutely monster. There are several other support staff I hope stay on...Weston Zernechel, Tony Tucker, Jeff Uhlenhake, etc. My next thought was about the coaching staff. The names that were most important to me were Larry Johnson, Taver Johnson, Brian Hartline, Alex Grinch and Tony Alford. Would not shock me to see LJ Sr. retire at this point but I hope he still has something left in the tank because this team can easily be a playoff contender next year. Early word is he going to be staying because he is still out recruiting which is huge for a variety of reasons. Alford already has an Assistant Head Coach title and it would not shock me to see him interview for head coaching vacancies. I would be very surprised to see Schiano, Wilson and Hinton stay on, and I'm okay with that. Studrawa and Davis are the guys I would be happy to see move on to other jobs and I think they will. My first order of business would be to see about getting Marcus Freeman up here for an interview. He's a guy that could provide immediate returns on the field and on the road.
The feedback from the 2019 class is already very positive. Most of the kids have reaffirmed. You can chalk that up to this transition and the timing of it all rather than a weeks or months long search for candidates. Promoting from within is also easiest. The fact that Meyer could still be wandering the halls of the WHAC could be big too. And Day has recruited a lot of these kids personally. He personally landed Garrett Wilson, Harry Miller, Dwan Mathis and Jack Miller. Closing out the 2019 class is going to be a challenge but it can still be a top 10 class, which in the face of a legend retiring would be stunning. Holding on to a couple of these kids, like Jordan Battle, is going to be a extremely difficult. The other big concerns for me would be Young, Chambers and Nester but that is purely me speculating. I was worried about Hickman but it sounds like he is solid. But the damage that would have been done by a weeks or months long coaching search would have been immensely greater. There could have been a mass exodus. Instead we are talking about losing a kid or two at worst. Continuity with some of these kids will be paramount, especially the uncommitted ones like Harrison. LJ Sr. staying on gives us a chance with a kid like that, although this may give him all the ammunition he needs to head north.
Day is uniquely positioned to succeed in this role, similar to what happened at Oklahoma as numerous other people have pointed out. I am fully on board and have to say this has already gone a lot smoother than I could have ever dreamed that the end of an era would go.
This is probably the most insightful thing I could read all day. Thank you.

Are there any coaches under the tutelage of LJ Sr that will some day be able to provide the education, mentorship, leadership, recruiting, etc that he provides?

Concern over Harry Miller?
We need to hold on to him. Badly.
Not yet...Day was instrumental in landing Miller and seems to have connected with his mom throughout the process.Concern over Harry Miller?
