2018 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

1. QB battle loser is almost surely gone, because they're way too talented to be a backup for the remainder of their career.

So that means they need 3 more scholarships:

3 key position battles:

OL - 2 openings - 2 pseudo returning starters in Bowen/Knox

Beyond that, 4 Jr/Sr OL have not broken through yet, most heading into year 5. There are absolute monsters in the 2017 & 2018 classes primed to jump up.

LB - 2 openings - 2 pseudo returning starters in Harrison/Booker

Beyond that, 3 Jr LBs are trying to change that, 2 of them heading into year 5. The 2017 & 2018 classes are also loaded, and early returns on Browning/Werner were strong.

Saf - 4 sophomores and 2 true frosh fighting for one opening opposite Fuller, and that's without factoring in Okudah or Tyreke as potential safeties.

Between that much competition among guys who have not broken through yet, and an entire offseason for any behavioral dismissals, being essentially 3 over isn't a very tall order.
QB room will likely loose one player.
RB room is insanely crowded and talented, and Dobbins is the star for 2 more years. One player will likely transfer. On that note I really hope to see McCall move to the WR room and get some slot reps (I'd say that for any RB that could make the switch). We will need a lot of help at receiver in 2019, and for that reason I don't expect anyone in the WR room to transfer. We could actually loose our starting 6 receivers to the NFL after this year. 3 seniors, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Mack, Hill and Victor all go to the 2019 draft. Best case scenario is either Mack or Victor will stay. And with 6 starting caliber guys rotating 3 spots on the field I don't see a lot of reps for anyone else. Yes, we are going to need some help at WR in 2019.
I wouldn't be surprised if we lost a TE.
I don't think we'll loose anyone on the o line. It's pretty thin right now and the opportunity to play is there for anyone to take over the next 2-3 years.
On the other side of the ball, I wouldn't be surprised to see us loose someone on the D Line, at the same time I wouldn't expect it.
We may also see an exit at LB. A lot of insanely talented youngins the last 2 years.
The DB room is quite crowded, but also very young. So for that reason I don't think anyone leaves. I'd expect some attrition next year there as the current sophomores battle for starting spots, but right now it's pretty wide open.

So there's 4-5 likely open spots, not including things like academics or someone doing something stupid. Factor that in and I would guess 1-2 of our walk ons will be getting scholarships.

When the number 7 recruiting class in the country is a down year.
cheers_leonardo_dicaprio.gif

the incredible part is we all saw the difference with that class. Meyer commented on it many times. It seriously hampered depth and still has guys who might attrition out from it this year.

That was a #7 class instead of a 2-3 class so forgive me if I don't buy the "it's just an off year" stuff from DFBIA with their #21 class.

They are going to be feeling that one for the next 4 years.

OSU's 247 composite ranking under Meyer

2012: 5th
2013: 2nd
2014: 3rd
2015: 7th
2016: 4th
2017: 2nd
2018: 2nd

tsun for same period:

2012: 6th
2013: 4th
2014: 20th
2015: 37th
2016: 8th
2017: 5th
2018: 21st

so when the 2018 freshmen come to camp this fall, you will have a mix of guys all the way back to the 2014 classes

OSU class average past 5 years: 3.6

tsun class average past 5 years: 18
It’s worth noting that prior to Meyer’s arrival, that 2012 class was a “three star heaven” and pacing towards a finish in the low teens/early twenties before Meyer came in and slayed it on the way to a #5 finish. Harbrau took over a similar situation and limped to a #37 finish...and of course has a “three star heaven” low teens/early twenties finish in YEAR FOUR.

You may very well be right. Remember when they hired RR... some here suggested that it would put them back a decade. We’re there plus 50% and they have their savior in place.

And that savior just booked the #21 class.

10 years me amigo. That’s all it’s going to take to draw ahead on the all-time record with them.

Felt like there was a disproportionate amount of talk about our class nationally. It was right behind UGA's, yet UGA, USC, FSU, A&M, and scUM (for other reasons) seemed to dominate the attention. Not like we didn't make any noise on signing day either

Meh... let 'em talk. When the product shows up on the field over the next couple of years they'll be talking about that. But I hear what you're saying... but frankly, Urb landing another class like this is "dog bites man" news. UGA made a lot of noise this year and they deserve some spotlight... the others, especially TSUN sucking as bad as they did is a "man bites dog" story. Gotta gets them the clicks ya know.

Yeah. Georgia came out of nowhere. Bama sucked for the first time. UM was laughably bad. Ours was right where it was expected to be.

I get this sentiment.....but unfortunately, having your team talked about ad nauseam the way Bama and Georgia got on ESPNU is a huge leg up for future classes.

Say my name.....(American Pie, not suitable for recruiting forum 8D)

Still not worried about it. I'm sure players know who Urban and tOSU are and the excellence of the program. Even if sEcSPIN didn't talk that much about us, other outlets have.

Yeah, I'm with you. I hate complaining about this stuff.....but I feel like they're doing it for a reason, that reason being it helps the teams they have a stake in. Even if it's a minor help, it's still a help. But it's probably not worth more than a groan and an eye roll.
