2018 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Well, we currently have 5 QBs on scholarship including the fresh signee so you know 1 of those guys is going somewhere else.

Cant find too many other positions that we can shrink, maybe WR. Ugh

Look at one of the scholarship grids. Lots of RS JR's. There are names you see that haven't played much for whatever reason and are probably on track to graduate in the spring.

A brief moment for the unpleasant part of today's proceedings;

4 guys currently on scholarship or committed have to be gone by/not show up for fall camp
1. QB battle loser is almost surely gone, because they're way too talented to be a backup for the remainder of their career.

So that means they need 3 more scholarships:

3 key position battles:

OL - 2 openings - 2 pseudo returning starters in Bowen/Knox

Beyond that, 4 Jr/Sr OL have not broken through yet, most heading into year 5. There are absolute monsters in the 2017 & 2018 classes primed to jump up.

LB - 2 openings - 2 pseudo returning starters in Harrison/Booker

Beyond that, 3 Jr LBs are trying to change that, 2 of them heading into year 5. The 2017 & 2018 classes are also loaded, and early returns on Browning/Werner were strong.

Saf - 4 sophomores and 2 true frosh fighting for one opening opposite Fuller, and that's without factoring in Okudah or Tyreke as potential safeties.

Between that much competition among guys who have not broken through yet, and an entire offseason for any behavioral dismissals, being essentially 3 over isn't a very tall order.

There is one kid who has had knee issues for 4 years that has been widely speculated to get a medical hardship so i think you are only talking 2 in reality

Right, so basically that means 1-2 position battle casualties and 0-1 off-field casualties.

Many of these guys are potential graduates too that could play immediately elsewhere. Evan Lisle did this and had a lot of success at Duke.

A lot of things will sort themselves out during Spring when guys see where and how they r being fit into drills, reps and where they sit on the depth chart.

Hate when it's inevitiable that we r going to lose some Buckeyes, but we have this "gotta get the number down 2-3 kids before fall camp" conversation every year.

With the trend continuing with guys coming in early, also means they r likely to graduate early, leaving the option to go play elsewhere if they r not seeing the field at OSU by their Jr. yr.

Wondering how in the world UGA was still ahead of us in the rankings...then saw after today, they have 8 five-stars in their class. Yikes. Wonder if that set a record on points total? Seems like we would have had the #1 class overall in most other years.

Sorry. I thought it would be OK to mention because it was nothing the kid did wrong, or speculation of the same.

UGA is on fire. I'm actually scared to see what their class would have looked like if they hadn't choked away the NC though that bump usually comes the following year.
