tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Until someone else besides Ari claims it is significant, that feels like a backup plan if the Texas LBs head elsewhere, and I'm pretty sure they already had at least one backup option in place.

I think there is a definite concern about only taking one LB in this class. As always, this staff will continue to recruit OSU-caliber players until the signatures are put on the LOIs. So even if they think they have a good shot at Browning (I think they do) or Hines (I think they don't) they will continue to try to find talent.

Having said that I have seen precisely zero film of this kid so I have no idea what he looks like. But I will try to find some.

My take on the LB situation is that we will go full-tilt at Browning and also pursue Hines. Getting Okudah on board sooner rather than later would certainly help, although I'm sure he's already recruiting Browning.

However, I am a little torn here because we know McMillan is gone after this year and so is Burger. Either one of Hilliard or Connor could be absolute studs inside, but both have had serious issues with injuries and we have no idea if we can count on them being healthy for us. Further, the remaining linebacker recruits in this class and the immediately preceding class have mostly been outside guys. So in sum, I would really think we knock down the doors for Hines because I could see depth there being an issue.

AN IN-DEPTH LOOK AT WHICH PROGRAMS TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OHIO STATE'S NATIONAL RECRUITING APPROACH

74945_h.jpg,qitok=ILkQmbNv.pagespeed.ce.cny4sqNASH.jpg

Head coach Urban Meyer acknowledged last month that Ohio State's national recruiting efforts have left the state ripe for the picking. He's worried that other programs may come in and poach recruits that used to be considered worthy of an offer from the Buckeyes.

“That's my biggest fear about Ohio,” Meyer said.

But what schools should the fifth-year head coach worry about the most?

Michigan State and Wisconsin seemingly come to mind, with rosters full of overlooked three-star prospects from the Buckeye State. Michigan, too, as history shows a pair of Heisman Trophy winners who spurned Ohio State and took their talents to the state up north.

What about Cincinnati, which is considered one of the favorites in Big XII expansion?

Re: The Wildcats typically offer a recruit very early in the process and it's clearly working in their favor.

Yes, it appears to be working very well in getting a number of recruits. But when will Kentucky start showing some results "on the field"?
Just sayin': If they could get Danny Clark he might be a "game changer" for them.

See chart in link above: Who are the 8 players that went to the University of Unsigned?

At the end of the day its an 85 scholarship limit issue and there is nothing anyone can do about that so why worry?

I'd rather be in the position of landing 4-5 star guys than relegated to 3 stars that may or may not develop into studs by their 4th or 5th year.

No guarantees but much better odds in your favor much more consistently.

I agree; in addition, the more Ohio kids that get scholarships to play football for any university/college the better.

Hilliard is more outside but Connor has made plays when he's healthy. A little more weight and opportunity and I think he can be a Boulware type player that Clemson has or TJ Watt. I'm more worried that our DT's keep developing and everything else will be fine.

"Either one of Hilliard or Connor could be absolute studs inside"

Based on what?

Bottom line is we need to procure a bonafide thumper of a MLB.

Based on their potential as recruits and positive initial reports before getting injured. But they have been injured almost their entire time here, so hence the "could" and why I said I want a MLB in this class.
