tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Just my guess on how the last spots shake out assuming 5 spots left (in order of positional need and the ideal player to fill that spot):

1 DT (Lawrence OR Dioubate...we take both if we can but would be thrilled with just one)
1 DB (Fuller OR Becker...I think the ship could be sailing on Hamlin but I would love to be surprised)
1 QB (Haskins)
1 LB (Keandre Jones OR Harrison...I think we go all out on Jones and see if we have room for Harrison)
1 WR (Bruce OR Victor...I think we are trending stronger with Bruce now and maybe fading a bit on Victor...if they both want in, I have no idea how you would say no)

- If for some reason we have 6 spots left, I would add another DT, DB, LB or WR if we can. Also will be interesting to see if the Hardman recruitment heats up, although I think there is too much ground to make up.

THIS. Every spot listed except QB has 2 good options. And Haskins *should* be in.

The difference between each player per position isn't big enough to be a huge deal. Just take first available. If you have room for 6, double up on the position where the best prospect remains.

Sets up very well to finish strong. Love it.

Edit: Interesting spot this year with the WR and DB recruiting considering the '17 class. Something to keep in mind with the '16 close out.

His official visit starts today- I imagine he was waiting to commit in person. A kid from Columbus doesn't get offered late in the cycle without it being commitable.

The interesting thing about it is apparently they are looking at him as a LB or WR. If they miss on Victor and Bruce, Harrison might be a WR and they pursue another LB like Maryland's (and Haskin BFF) Keandre Jones.

If they hit on their WR targets Harrison will be another Fickell central Ohio LB special in the mold of Josh Perry and Darron Lee.
The possibility of a Jones flip was the reasoning behind wondering if MH had a comittable offer. I'm sure he still does though. As you said, a late offer to a local guy and all. Still, will be interesting to see how numbers shake out. Perhaps Harrison will be the last "spot" as an athlete if the finish is QB, WR, DT, DB. Numbers are getting tight and you know the staff wants one of each putting the number at 23. If MH was #24 in a class that could finish with a bang, well that would sure be nice.

Him wanting to be a WR might offer a convenient "out" for both sides. OSU says they want him as a LB, he says he wants to play WR, they both wait until signing day to see if there is room in the class. If Ohio State ends with

QB: Haskins
WR: Bruce/Victor (or both)
LB: Jones
DT: Lawrence/King
DB: Fuller

There will be a number crunch and no one you turn away.

Welcome to big boy football Maryland- they're not taking it well.

First because the Maryland 'insiders' apparently burned their sources on Jones out of spite and prevented the kid from rolling out the announcement the way he and his family wanted to.

Second because they can't seem to grasp that when you dump your entire coaching staff and their relationship with these recruits, they start looking around to other schools without it being a giant conspiracy theory.

Also, their insiders take a page from #BBN and lead the flock with rainbows and sunshine that leave the masses in a tizzy when reality smacks them in the face.

http://www.testudotimes.com/marylan...232/keandre-jones-recruiting-terps-ohio-state

I just want us to beat them so bad next year and for years to come
Any respect I had of Ohio State is gone and I am just going to be laughing my socks off when in couple of years Mclean and Co run OSU out of their own stadium.

Hopefully Hansford and Yulee are on board and are more than capable replacements for Jones loss.
AAR, do your thing baby.

And folks were worried we wouldn't have any good rivalries in the B1G!
Feels like home already. They’re all twice as big as us and trying to steal our lunch money. Time to kick some ***.

November 12, 2016
Ohio State will be our *******!!! **** ’em.

Ohio State is a crappy school in one of America's crappiest states
Football is their life. I’m glad I live in a real state surrounded by intelligent individuals and some of the most powerful people in the world.

I think these kids are little stupid for committing to OSU. Not because f the football, but because these are far better places in the country one could go to and compete for a championship. I have never been a fan of landlocked states and I am pretty sure Columbus is not a tourist destination. Why not go to one of the SEC schools or the Pac 12 where your close to water and shit to do.

Umm, okay? I guess one sided "rivalries" and false bravado isn't just a Penn State thing. Is there something in the water over there?

I don't mind how this is going
If OSU comes in and kicks our ass it is like who cares they are supposed to do that

If we beat them by one, then we mock them forever

That is why the NCAA tourney is so great

I just find it annoying that coaches can have full court presses on committed recruits two weeks before signing day.

Cock of ****.

As stated above, Urban Meyer is an *******.

They're fitting in to the B1G so well!

But what is this NCAA tourney they speak of? Good luck mocking Ohio State fans about wins or losses in basketball.

Ow, it stings so much.

They then turn on Locksley in humorously tin foil hat ways.
We have a rat....
"With coach Locksley, it wasn't really a sales pitch. Coach Locks is from here and he recruited a lot of my really friends to Maryland -- Yannick [Ngakoue], Jermaine [Carter], Jesse [Aniebonam], Stefon Diggs. He definitely cares about us [local players] in a different way. It wasn't really recruiting talk. It was more like a deeper relationship, never from a recruiting standpoint. I kind of felt like he was an uncle or something."

---- Adam McLean

Somehow that quote proves that coach Locksley is actively encouraging all of his former recruits to screw over Maryland in the most harmful way possible (by waiting until the last minute to decommit).

Mike Locksley Can Go To Hell if He's Behind This
If not, I apologize.

But that’s the way I read that comment by one of our resident insiders.

If it’s true, Locksley is a bitter, bitter man, and with little excuse for it, considering that the university hired him twice, made him a coordinator and an interim head coach despite an attrocious win-lose record, and then offered him almost a million dollars a year to stay and be part of this year’s team. What a jerk.

Is he going to actually be added to Ohio State’s staff? Or is he just screwing us for free?

He may never work in FBS football again if he's behind this exodus and it becomes known
Who wants to hire a guy who’ll screw over a team out of spite for offering him a million dollars a year to stay instead of making him and his 3-31 record head coach?

If it can happen to Maryland, it can happen to whatever the next team is.

Not being a friend doesn't mean being an enemy
If Lox is behind it, it is more than being "not our friend." This is an act of an enemy.
I personally find it difficult to believe (maybe I am in denial) that he would actively persuade kids away from us.
I can believe he wouldn’t be speaking favorably about us, but actually causing kids to flip???
Does he have that much influence?
If so, he must be a better recruiter than I gave him credit for. He should be known as the Piper.
While others called it career suicide, if Lox is really behind it, it could be his way of demonstrating his recruiting power to his potential suitor.
Again, I still have a hard time believing that Lox is that low, vindictive and powerful…

Don't be surprised if Locks ends up at O$U
Meyer has always been very fond of him.

WTF
I really hate Ohio State. Why are these guys flipping to them? Just because of Locks? That’s crazy.

And then they turn their rage towards their terrible "insiders" for pumping fake rainbows and sunshine into their minds... oh wait, no, they blame the kid.
"No chance he leaves his mom"
Is what I heard from multiple people. **** this… Honestly if this is true, I’m done following recruiting. I just got so mad, Dropping f bombs while watching tv with my girlfriend. She asked me what happened, I tell her I’m mad because a 17 year old kid chose not play football for the school I love and went to……"Riiiiggghhhht" Chances are she’s flipping her commitment as well. I feel like a giant d-bag

Then they turn on Haskins.

That emoji doesn't make sense
Unless he is pumped that Jones is joining him at OSU.

I think he's been laughing at us for a long time now
Can we pull his scholarship offer yet?

HAHAHAHHAHAHA
omg can DJD PLEASE tell DH "Listen. We like you as a player, but your antics on twitter are too worrisome for the direction we’re taking this program. We’re pulling your offer."

That would be hilarious.

This is the type of dude we wanted here?
Give me Pigrome. Give me someone with character. Give me a guy who can lead without just saying that they can.

My biggest issue is
when a coaching staff changes and you’re not 100% then just back off your commitment…don’t pretend to be all in…don’t give us lip service. Just cut it off if you’re not about it and come back if you want to be apart of this group don’t play both sides of the fence.

Which is funny when you read it right next to this.

I know that DJD is trying to be the bigger man,
but eventually we just have to say that enough is enough. This kid has been retweeting decommitments and hasn’t said anything pro-maryland in a long time. Recruits have to see how he is clowning maryland and unfortunately, public perception is still the number one thing in recruiting.

Also, I'm not sure who they think Ohio State has on the bench behind Barrett...

I'm glad he thinks this is funny
Hope he’s laughing from the bench the next 4 years.

Jones has a chance to actually freakin play
DH isn’t doing anything.

At least Jones did so quietly and maturely. Freakin Haskins acts like a game. "#Shhh guys! I’m never gonna play another down in my life"

And then there's CharmCityCrab, who has to be a troll...

Haskins might have been a problem here. A guy like that can’t lead, and it filters down to the rest of the team. Your quarterback needs to set a professional tone. Otherwise, the other guys maybe don’t put in the effort, maybe they get sick of the quarterback sulking and starting fires off the field, etc., and your whole coaching staff has to figuratively speaking run around putting out the fires the QB starts because they can’t have their left-tackle punching him in the face over whatever mind game he’s playing with everyone around him that week. He’s starting to feel like a Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson or a Terrell Owens type.

I mean, I don’t really know. Haskins could still surprise us and do the right thing. But it’s not looking promising.

There is a chance that if this is the beginning of several high-profile decomits and we don’t have time to replace them, adding a very low ranked recruiting class to last year’s three win team, that our recruiting and potential never recovers, or we at least have to start over from square one with a new theme and a new vision.

One thing about joining the Big Ten is that it offered a fresh start. If we went in as a program on the rise and maybe just had one bad year or whatever and improved steadily, we could have maybe been established as a power. One can’t compete with the 100,000 seat stadiums and the many decades of tradition that some of these schools have overnight and immediately match their stature, but if things had went right, we could have been at a level where we were good enough to build rivalries and score some upsets and be a scrappy underdog team that was taken seriously and got the occasional division or conference title and was a constant on the small bowl scene, at least, with big bowls being a possibility once in a while. Eventually, we build the 100,000 seat stadium and the tradition.

My concern now is that the opposite might also be true. If we go in and get established in people’s minds as a doormat, it may be hard to recruit top talent, establish rivalries, and be taken seriously in the future, even if we get things together a little. I mean, Duke football is good now, but after being in the ACC with them for so long, I still laugh when I hear "Duke football"- I just can’t take it seriously. I’m concerned for next season, and the season after that- but also the long-term of sort of being established as the team that everyone rolls over for their easy in-conference win and recruits and fans and pundits can never take seriously, even if we do have a Cinderella year every once in a while.

This is really, really disheartening.

Is This Fair Play From Ohio State?
Let’s say that Ohio State winds up plucking several of our top verbal commits at the last minute- Jones, Haskins, and another 4 star or two. Let’s take it a step further and say hypothetically Maryland suspects that it was coordinated to where they were recruiting guys to hurt Maryland and timed it for maximum effect…

The Big Ten is in theory big on fair play. Remember "handshake" gate?

Is there any chance we can get the Big Ten conference or Big Ten commissioner to step in and sanction Ohio State in some way if some or all of the above were to turn out to be true?

What about the NCAA? Would Ohio State be violating any regulations?

Could this be something that Locksley and/or Haskins are coordinating?
I hate to be a conspiracy theorist, but we have an insider telling us there is a rat and, frankly, at this point, it wouldn’t shock me if something like this happened:

1. Locksley got ticked that he didn’t get the head coaching job and offered to sell us out to Urban Meyer.

2. Haskins got on board.

3. Locksley and Haskins got Jones and a bunch of other guys on board.

4. Since they all have a flair for the dramatic and wanted to prevent Maryland from being able to recruit to fill the holes, they wanted to all hold their commitments to Maryland until the stretch run and then flip one by one by one leading up to signing day. Some might even wait until signing day.

If that’s what is happening, this will be the most hated group of people in the state for decades to come among sports fans, and, frankly, they’d all deserve it.

However, to be fair, I’m just speculating. Jones flipping is a disappointment, but if it was just him flipping on his own, and changed his mind honestly and didn’t hold out on flipping intentionally to hurt us, I don’t hate the guy. I’m upset that he won’t be on the team next year, but I understand that it was his choice to make.

Haskins, on the other hand….

Holy crap, so, if we end up getting one of the DT's that we are in on and finish signing Haskins, Victor/Bruce (or both), Fuller/Hamlin (or both), and Harrison as an ATH, along with the Jones flip, is this the best recruiting class top to bottom that OSU has ever had?

I can hardly sit still looking at all this talent right now.

Yeah, how happy is coach Fick today too huh? Awesome

What I don't see in the comments from Maryland fans is:

1. Acknowledgment that they changed head coaches since these kids committed and that kids frequently take a second look when this happens. And have every right to do so.

2. Acknowledgment that some of this falls on the shoulders of their new HC who is unable to keep these kids committed.

Trifecta coming today? I certainly think so...

I see OSU finishing with Harrison, Fuller, Victor, Haskins and Jones for sure. Could easily see another DB like Burns or Hamlin although I think Hamlin is going to stay home. And at least on DT, and at this point I would think it could be King. I want to predict Lawrence to OSU but I just can't see him telling Les and Coach O no. The guys I've been begging for is Bruce...I would make room for him regardless of numbers.

I know Urbs said 4-5 more but I see 6-7.

Sounds perfect. So, if we land those guys where does that put us in Buckeye class history in your opinion? Absolutely puts us as #1 in the country this year but I wondered where it might be in our own history. Best I've ever seen since I paid attention without a doubt but thats probably only a 15 year list or so.
