tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Many of the 2013 crop of premier offensive line recruits committed very early. The trend seems to be continuing again this this year, six of the Scout top 15 offensive tackles have already committed. I'm looking forward to Meyer and staff addressing the need in the near future.

Alot of familiar names on that list. But wasn't Dem. Knox, buckeye flirt but Texas committ considered a tackle prospect? Suprised he's not ranked. And also any serious interest from OSU in Brandon Bailey from Strongsville?

Scout has him as the #2 Guard.

I would definitely think Knox will be a guy, like Dontre Wilson this past year, that the OSU coaches keep working on despite him being a relatively solid commitment. There is obviously some reciprocal interest on his part and it seems like for the first time in a long time, there is the potential for some real instability in Texas' future.

A name to keep in mind for next winter if Texas has another down season. He would be the type of guy who would maybe even be good enough to come in and play immediately as a true frosh with 4 open starting spots along the OL in 2014.

What sucks is there is a ton of talent interested in tOSU, and very few spots. :( But that's a great crop of visitors for the weekend and hopefully we keep rolling.

I really think we will end up with a normal sized class when all is said and done. Not quite 25, but low 20s is my guess.

There are only 13 seniors, but Roby and Shazier will probably head to the NFL. There are 3 or 4 guys who will graduate next year who may or may not come back for a 5th year. And the inevitable attrition of guys with injuries, freshmen who get home sick, etc.

Roby, yes, but not so sure about Shazier.

Agree with your observation. I think some of what makes coach Meyer a great recruiter is his ability to see the whole picture. I think Knox has left the door slighty ajar. With the Texas vibe being unstable and Mack's future uncertain Meyer will stay until the end. Or at least until we are full at OL. I could see the same approach with QB D. Watson. Meyer knows how OC's move around, with the odds being that Clemson will have turnover. If we can't move Watson outright, it would not surprise me a bit to see OSU keep their sole efforts on Watson until after the season. Alot of people have wanted other QB offers to go out(Barker), but I think Meyer has a confidence in winning many of these top battles born out actual results, that he will go to the wire to get the top recruit on the board. D. Wilson and Vonn Bell were proof of that this year. I only hope that for '14 we have a couple tackles in the fold early and somebody like Knox that may actually come free late is just icing on the cake.

Its going to be interesting to see if he stays committed with mack brown now not wanting kids to visit other schools after committing to UT. A year is a long time to not visit any other schools

I know this is a longshot, but would geek out with a WR corp/law offices of Blacknall, Lattimore & Snodgrass.

Lattimore is in IMO. I think if we really want Snodgrass and Blacknall then we have a great shot at both. However I think there are a couple receivers ahead of those two, namely Drake Harrris, Demarre Kitt and Lonnie Johnson.

I'd love receiver class of Lattimore, Johnson and Harris/Kitt (obviously take both if we can but that's an extreme longshot. Also names like Trevion Thompson, Derek Kief, and Artavis Scott are players to look out for who have interest in be Bucks.

I think there is a premium for WRs that will primarily split out wide here and if we could get three, my picks in order would be: 1) Drake Harris 2) Marshon Lattimore 3) Demare Kitt. Beyond that, I personally like Snodgrass over Johnson but the I'm not sure the staff sees it that way. And if it's a tie, go with the GWOC kid...GWOC is the gift that keeps giving to OSU.

It is going to be interesting to see how it all shakes out with WR recruiting. I mean, OSU is arguably among the top two for Demare Kitt, Marshon Lattimore, Artavis Scott, Drake Harris, Miles Autry, Dallis Todd..... and I'm probably forgetting someone. I'll be curious to see how the OSU staff ranks these players internally.

To be clear, I have Autry near the top of my list for the entire 2014 class, I just consider him a candidate for the Pivot/hybrid spot. The other guys I see as more pure WRs other than possibly Lattimore.

How does Lattimore stack up as a defensive prospect? I thought I had seen it mentioned that he preferred defense, either CB or S.

A first blush, the prospects at WR look better and deeper than the prospects at DB, so I kind of like the idea of him on that side of the ball if he is anywhere near as good a prospect there as he appears to be at WR.

Seems like the staff would take a guy like Harris right now but are maybe waiting and hoping to see more from guys like Johnson, Snodgrass, etc. before pushing for a commitment.

I'll have to pay closer attention.. because if you fellas place anyone over Lattimore... at WR/DB/S/Star .. that's saying a TON... I see McMillan and Lattimore as 6-star dudes.. but I have not seen anyone in person.. just film

First, I think Lattimore is too electric to play DB but he certainly is good enough to. But I don't think either position is more stacked than the other. In '13 we got Conley, Burrows, and Apple at corner. This year we already have a stud in Webb and are in on many more. Plus I am betting on Paris Cambell getting an offer soon and I see him as a corner. I think WR is actually a tad less crowded actually...a lot of attrition from the '12 class, Wilson and Marshall are moreso hybrids with only Clark and Smith as true receivers in '13. I think Lattimore could play either the hybrids or split out wide...I think we have guys like Autry up for the hybrid, so I would love to see Harris, Lattimore, and Kitt outside, Autry inside to go with Marshall and Wilson from this year.
