Game Thread tOSU @ Penn State, Oct 25th @ 8pm ET, ESPN

@exhawg How come you hear.. in the 4th qtr when the DL fatigues or wears down... but you never hear same for OL
OL almost never have to run for more than 5-10 yards. DL do on most plays unless they are worthless and lazy to begin with.

When DL get lazy about running down the line from the backside or getting out in the flats or taking proper pursuit angles and actually hussling to get places big plays open up for the offense all over the field.

I'm not a football player, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Anyway, I'd imagine that a lot of it is mental. If you're a defensive lineman, and you hold your ground and the offense gets 2 yards, then 3 yards on the next running play, then 3 yards, then 4 yards, and you start doubting whether you can stop the other team. It becomes tougher to maintain your position. They start pushing you back. Then they get 5 yards and 5 yards and 7 yards. It would wear you down. On the other side, the offense is pumped. They may be wearing down, physically, if it weren't for the adrenaline. Also, if the offense gets 0 yards, then 1 yard, then 1 yard, the defense wins the series and the punting teams come on. Success is rewarded on offense by letting the offense play more. Success is rewarded on defense by putting the offense back in the game.

A lot of people predicting a lot of sacks for tOSU on Saturday. I really hope that's the case but at this point, everyone knows about our d-line and blitzing. Everyone knows the Silver Bullets can get after the QB. I see a lot of roll-outs and quick passes happening to neutralize the pass rush. I'm all for a sackfest (pause), but I think our defense is going to have other opportunities to shine. 3 INTs and a fumble recovery against the Shittany Lions.

Give me 0 sacks and a 56-0 win over 12 sacks and a 28-20 win. Or a loss. I know that sacks help with field position which helps with the score, but my point is that I'm not so interested in how the scoring happens - just so long as it is awesome.

Agreed. Everyone knows that their shitty Oline cannot protect Hack for more than a second or two, so I look for a lot of shotgun formations, quick outs, slants, wr screens, etc. They're only hope is to get the ball out of Hack's hands quickly and hope their WRs can break a few tackles and make some plays. I don't see them using many 7 step drops at all, and if they do, odds are it'll be a screen pass.
