tOSU @ Northwestern, Sat Nov 5, 12pm, ABC

Don't care about the rankings on Tuesday. Win out, we're in.

I'm more concerned with the level of play.

Yeah, I agree:

I'll say this once today since everyone knows how I feel. I will not repeat this again guys but...

This football team will lose vs ttun if we play as we have for the last 3 weeks. We'll get bled to death for 5 ypc and lose by 2 scores.

Thankfully the games at home and we should be motivated. However I'm not personally going to feel good about that game.

That game in 3 weeks will be about stopping the run and gosh I just don't know.

Not sure we'll get answers before that weekend.

Offense has been flat since the bye. Execution has been poor, playcalling has adapted but hasn't been great, and they haven't had a consistent lineup to work with.

They desperately need both RBs to get healthy and for JSN to become available. Otherwise the offense will continue to struggle.

Zone blocking schemes don't "fire off the ball"...the first step is usually either lateral or at a 45-ish degree angle.

Zone blocking schemes like what Ohio State's base set is comprised of are disrupted by blitzes and hard slants by the defensive front 7.

That's what we've seen the last 3 weeks. If CJ is going to start pulling the ball every once in a while, that will open things up immensely.

OSU's base run game is what it is. The biggest issue is the lack of misdirection, sweeps, etc. to keep the defense honest. I also don't get why they brought Frye in and refuse to use more pulling guards and gap runs.

Regardless, what they do can work, but you need to be able to pass and have other reliefs built in to keep the defense guessing. No idea why they don't.

They do what's needed in The Game, and they're top-2. The rest just breeds overconfidence.
It doesn’t really matter where we are ranked this week, right. You win out and you’re in. Undefeated BIG Champ isn’t getting left out. Georgia is looking to trash UT

Edit:
We’ve seen other top teams struggle Alabama/Clemson in games in years past.

I'd give that team performance a D+. Running game was gross again and borderline needs an overhaul, which is alarming in week 9. Passing game was putrid. Give Stroud some slack for the conditions and I don't understand Day's gameplan at all, which didn't seem to take the conditions into account at all, but still, throwing 26 times for 76 yards is what it is. It's not the first football game ever played with some wind. Even the defense was ok at best. Yes, only giving up 7 points is good. But in Northwestern you're talking about a team with almost no talent, who ran the ball on 80% of their plays, when it was obvious they were going to run, and 1/3rd of those plays they didn't even have a quarterback on the field. And they gave up close to 300 yards. Just a bad performance overall. They really need to do some serious self scouting before Nov 26

1. Better pray for clear weather the last Saturday in November.
2. I guess I expected more improvement in the defense than is possible in one year.
3. I guess I expected this team to be able to run the ball.
4. Lots of dropped balls by receivers that made Strouds numbers look worse than they were.

I was frustrated with the defense at times, but i dont think they played poorly. If a team is ok with running the ball 60 times while using their QB and wildcat formations, they'll stay on schedule and get yardage. Didn't do much for them on the scoreboard.

First two points are huge...

We need great weather to win out which shouldn't be the case but IMO it's true. It sucks that if we don't have ideal conditions we can't move the ball.

The defense has been alarming to me Aldo. Sure today we didn't give up points but we can't give up 200 yards rushing and expect to win games.
