tOSU @ Northwestern, Sat Nov 5, 12pm, ABC

I reiterate strongly that we need to drop the stretch runs in short yardage situations—they’ve been stuffed for multiple weeks in a row and it’s not because the OL is soft, it is impossible to be tough and get a push when you run plays where the OL is supposed to be moving sideways… it’s literally inviting the DL to shoot the gaps, with the easiest read in the world—just go wherever the OL steps—and blow it up in the backfield.

Who cares?

I don’t.
Precisely. They either get better and it takes care of itself, or it doesn't matter.

It's not like they're playing for favorable seeding. Should OSU win out in solid fashion, they won't get any favors in the rankings. They'll stack the deck to avoid an SEC rematch before the final.
We won't be in the top four after this...
It sure will be fun if only one of the Big 2 gets to win ugly in the B1G. Michigan has done that often this year.

Yeah, any win is better than a loss. Who would have guessed that this was a "trap game", fortunately the Bucks prevailed?
I mean, on paper preseason it was a massive trap game, on the road for the second week in a row after a road game against Penn State.

Throw in gusting 50mph wind and rain and it couldn’t possibly have been more of a trap game.

Yep, and if you're going to continue with the stretch plays, you have to mix in a fair amount of misdirection. You have to keep the D-line and LB's honest in their reads. Make them think and slow them down. There's a reason Stroud's runs were big gainers, and it sure wasn't his X-Brax360 like moves.

Did I mention misdirection.

The offensive line play and the consequent poor performance of the running game for three games in a row should be ringing alarm bells in that locker room and in the next meeting of coaches. There is too much talent for the performance we just witnessed. I get the weather, but they knew it was coming early in the week. Coaching gets a D- on the day.
Yeah, the wind doesn’t prevent the OL from firing off the ball. NU wasn’t even loading the box. By the 4th qtr their DL should be so warn down that the Bucks can just march it straight down the field. No running side-to-side, no dancing around. Just ground and pound. I’m always told that’s what the OL loves to do and what is most demoralizing to the D.

In the coach’s show this morning (Game Time with Ryan Day) they had an interview with Justin Frye. They had shots from practice and he was talking about having all these highly rated players who want to be taught and want to get better. This is supposed to be a strength of our team. Why aren’t we seeing it?
