Have you forgotten Greg Oden, Terence Dials and Jared Sullinger so quickly?
I miss the Granite Brow :(

Yes, and I don't think Dials was close to the other two in talent and I think they played on their own talents rather than improved that much like coaching. JMO
So you're conceding that he coached up Dials pretty well then?

How exactly can Thad win in your scenario? He recruits the nation's best big man and then when that player dominates in S&G, well that's just because he was talented coming in. I'd hate to see how outlandish your standard for coaching is if those stellar seasons do not merit recognition as being able to coach them.

Out of curiosity, would Izzo be more worthy of your recognition and praise when it comes to coaching big men?

How about our third year Center and backup don't get beat up on and outplayed last night, and the night before that, and the night before that? or last year.
And I'm not concerned with how Izzo or any other coach compares.
Im going to rehab now, in case you wonder where I disappeaqr to now.

Yeah, Ravenel was frequently beat up on and outplayed last year :roll1: The other guy was a sophomore who played very sparingly as a freshmen given how dominant the two guys were ahead of him.

As for 2013-14, perhaps you should try discussing the development of this team (Amir in particularly) instead of reckless broad brush attacks about how Matta can't coach big men. By that logic and tiny sample size "Matta can't coach up scoring guards" would be in play based on the last 2 seasons.

Sullinger - 2x AA, NPOY by USBWA, 1st round pick
Oden - DPOY, Big of yr, 2nd tm AA, 1st round #1 pick
Dials - B10 POY
Lauderdale - B10 All Def team. Strong role player. Played alongside many studs. Would've been huge this year.
Mullens - All Frosh team, 6th man of year, 1st round pick
Ravenel - Enforcer underneath, huge role in OSU's deep runs in league and tourney play.
Koufos - Inconsistent year, MVP of NIT, 1st round pick.
Williams - Loads of talent, lacks tenacity and toughness.

That's a pretty incredible hit rate with big men. If you think it's simple to just deploy HS stars as college superstars, ask UK about that.

By my count, his underwhelming bigs were Amir and to some extent Koufos, though he only had a year and KK wanted no part of being a center. That's a far cry from not being able to coach a big man.

Good luck with that.

Thad needs to find a way to get Amir in a mindset of being consistently tough down low. He can do it, we've seen it several times, he just needs to put together a complete game. Rebounding also needs to change on the offensive side. Most possessions last night, after a shot left the hands, everyone was pulling back except one player, so even if that person got the rebound, there was no good outlet to pass and reset. Getting back on D is one thing, giving up 90% of the rebounds because no one is there is another.

To be fair to Amir, he does look a lot better than he did last year. Even against terrible competition last year Amir looked like crap and only scored in double figures once (SCUM lol).

With that said, Thad needs to hire someone to pee in Amir's breakfast every morning or SOMETHING to get him to play angry all the time.

Thad also needs to figure out how to get Myles Turner here.

I didnt say any of our centers were no good, I said it's my opinion that none of them were coached up very well. I'll agree that Amir is better than last year, but for a third year man is he as good as he should be? Shouldn't he be the one pushing guys like Eliason and walker around?
I also wonder what happened to out shooting all of a sudden?

What? None of our big guys were coached up very well. If that is a case, then why where the majority of them high level draft picks. I think that Matta would agree with you that he thought Williams would be a better player this year but he just has not shown the improvement. I do not think that is the coaches fault. Amir has to play with more passion and it is very difficult for a coach to instill that in a person. I am sure that when Matta recruited Amir and Trey he thought that they would be much better players by this time in their college careers. All coaches make some mistakes in recruiting even Matta.

You ask what happened to the outside shooting. Well, I do not think you can blame the coaches for that either. They are not the ones on the court missing the three point shots. Players have to be accountable for practicing shooting on their own time in addition to practice time. I think before we make a big judgment we should wait until the season is over.
