tOSU: Best Trio of Coaches in NCAA?

ok i can live with that......

anyway, just trying give a another opinion, shouldn't be hard to tell but I wouldn't trade our coaching staff, top to bottom, for any staff in the nation.

Yeah, thats a respectable opinion too - honestly. Texas, IMO, is one of the greatest baseball teams of all time, but no one on the east coast watches it much. If you pick up the USA Today, full page articles will be on Womens BBall, Mens BBall and on the last page a full page about top 25 mens and womens high school bball. Thats pretty much the opinion of east coast/midwest attitude toward the top 3 sports.

Im sure though in the dakotas, or minnesota girls BBall is nothing compared to hockey or wrestling. So, in the end, "top 3 sports" is just a matter of location.

Generally down here the "big three" are Football, Basketball, Baseball. Womens sports really dont enter the equation even though there are some amazing womens basketball teams and softball teams across the south and in Texas. I must admit that i was kinda shocked to see womens basketball to be considered "top three" i figured that in the big ten the 3rd would be wrestling or hockey.

Ohio State's athletic success not an accident

To be successful in the 21st Century you are always rebuilding, whether you are a business, a non-profit organization, a school or an athletic organization.
The moment you stop re-tooling, the instant you stop tweaking, you start to lose ground.
It is counterproductive to rest on your laurels.
Successful organizations have to take time to recognize their successes, but then it's back to work.
We hope the Ohio State Athletic Department's staff is taking some time this week to pat itself on the back.
The women's basketball team won the Big 10 conference tournament in thrilling fashion over Purdue Monday night, having already won the regular season conference championship outright.
The men's basketball team has also won the regular season conference championship outright and is preparing for this weekend's Big 10 tournament and the NCAA tournament after that.
The football team begins spring practice March 30 following a season that saw them tie for the Big 10 crown. Only two close, hard-fought losses to national champion Texas and Big 10 co-champ Penn State kept the Buckeyes from getting a shot at USC in the Rose Bowl for what could have been their second national championship in four years.
With their titles this year, the Buckeyes reached a pinnacle only two other schools have achieved - winning conference championships in football, men's basketball and women's basketball in the same academic year.
That level of achievement doesn't occur by happenstance.
To be so successful on so many levels at the same time is a tribute to organization, leadership, hard work and commitment.
Congratulations to Ohio State women's basketball coach Jim Foster, men's basketball coach Thad Matta and football coach Jim Tressel.
And congratulations to the Ohio State administrators and search committees who hired three such outstanding coaches and leaders. Such success makes Marion proud - proud to be an Ohio State town and proud to be home to a regional campus of The Ohio State University.
We know the athletic department and the university as a whole are not looking back. They are looking to next year and the year after. It is a process of continuous improvement. It's something we all should strive for.

I think people are basing it on what sports are televised nationally on a regular basis.

Well considering that there is no Big Ten hockey conference, and only 5 teams play hockey, and they're in two separate conferences...

And wrestling is wrestling, OSU would never get the kind of attendance at a wrestling meet as women's hoops. I've never seen a wrestling meet televised other than the NCAA's.

Women's hoops is much more televised on ESPN and the national outlets than baseball

While we're touting tOSU's coaches, we need to mention Men's Gymnastics coach Miles Avery, who has led the team to an NCAA title (2001), and three runner-up finishes, including 2005. He will be an assistant coach for the USA Gymnastics team at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Excellent point. Avery came to Ohio State as an assistant coach in 1989, and under his coaching OSU has been to 16 consecutive NCAA championships (current complete streak is a record 25). He has been on 3 U.S. Olympic staffs and has been coaching National Team members since the 80's. He brought the Hamm's to Columbus for training prior to the 2004 Olympics, and he has coached one of OSU's greatest athletes/alum, 3-time Olympian Blaine Wilson.

For those who haven't followed other areas of OSU athletics, OSU men's gymnastics just completed this regular season with a perfect 7-0 conference record, having just beaten #8 Michigan and #4 Penn State over the last two weeks.
