I'm watching the replay of their game against Illinois. This is a no shit Sherlock comment, but if Wisconsin doesn't utilize the "shorten the game" strategy, they're idiots. Number one.....it's Wisconsin. That's what they do. Number two....that QB is NOT good. If Illinois had DBs that actually wanted to catch the ball, I saw about 4 interceptions left on the field in the last 8 minutes of the game.
It's not what they do though. It's what they did Fickell hired Phil Longo to go some form of modernish attack possibly air raid. They beat their head against that wall for a while then seemed to occasionally go fuck it we'll play like Wisconsin of old to win this game

They always pull some miracle bullshit on us.

I'll be relieved if we can just get out of there with a win no matter how shitty they are.

That said, a one dimensional offense with a back up QB shouldn't be able to beat us. Their defense has good numbers but haven't played anyone. IF we don't help them with turnovers, there is no reason this needs to be close.

It's Madison at night. It will be like the fall of Saigon up there.

This one is all about the start. First quarter points can make all of the difference here. Suffocate them early on defense. Put together a couple scores on offense and deflate the crowd before they're an issue. The longer Wisconsin is in this game, the more worried I'd get. They aren't built to come from behind and if they start to need passes to get down the field, we're going to make that QB make mistakes.

This might be the game to run 3 LBs a decent amount. If you can force them to have to throw, they're done.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT WISCONSIN AS LUKE FICKELL’S SQUAD PREPARES TO HOST OHIO STATE

Ohio State is coming off its biggest victory of the season against then-No. 7 Penn State. But on the Buckeyes’ slate next is a conference road test as they try to hold their seat alongside Michigan atop the Big Ten East.
Wisconsin shouldn’t pose a real threat to the Buckeyes on paper, particularly without one of its most crucial players, but a head coach that OSU’s fanbase is all too familiar with and what should be a raucous crowd in Camp Randall Stadium have the potential to slide that paper into a shredder if Ohio State isn’t on its game.

A FICKELL ENDEAVOR

Saying Luke Fickell has Ohio State ties is a massive understatement. He held the record for most consecutive starts in Columbus after making 50 in a row at nose guard from 1993 through 1996, a mark that stood for 21 years before it was broken by Billy Price in 2017.
Fickell served as the team’s linebacker coach for 12 seasons and was co-defensive coordinator for 11 of them, only broken up by a stint as interim head coach in 2011 following the “Tattoo-Gate” scandal.
He left following the 2016 campaign to take a job as Cincinnati’s head coach, finishing with a 57-18 record with the Bearcats that included a New Year’s Six Bowl trip in 2020 and a College Football Playoff appearance in 2021, still the only from a Group of Five school.
Now Fickell is in his first full year at Wisconsin, a program transitioning to a new style of football following the tenure of Paul Chryst. With Fickell’s overhaul of the coaching staff came an overhaul of its roster, with 19 outgoing and 15 incoming transfers this offseason.
Fickell led the Badgers to a win over Oklahoma State in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl at the close of last season and has them off to a 5-2 start to their 2023 campaign.

Yep. Nightmares of the 2003 game make me worry about this one. @ Wisconsin @ Night with backup QB involved.

Meh. They haven't beaten Ohio State since 2010, and even then they needed an opening kick return for a touchdown and they rode that momentum all night. To be fair, Ohio State never took the momentum back.

But you're right - Buckeyes needed two overtime games, at least two late-game heroics, and that's not even counting 2011, when Wisconsin had a much better record than Ohio State did. Leave with a win and start working on whoever the next game is against..

Use whatever word makes you comfortable. They are 81st in the country in yards per rush attempt.

I'm going with sketchy

I think that average could improve if more carries went to guys with some speed to the hole - Dallan or Henderson.

Most of the rushes have been by plodders. Even when there is a hole they aren't hitting it quickly.

But this line definitely isn't what we had last year. Some of those guys are starting on Sundays.

Henderson needs flashing lights to find the hole.

This. Miyan is great in short yardage situations and deserves some carries. But I'm going to throw my remote through the TV if the staff can't get it through their heads that Hayden needs the bulk of the carries. That stubbornness likely lost us The Game last year and it might again if we don't wake up.

Great win last week, but not playing Hayden is downright negligent. You're right that the OL isn't what it was last year, we had an elite OL. But I'm of the opinion they're improving lately and are getting the job done well enough to have a better rushing offense than this.
