Game Thread tOSU at USC, Sat. Oct. 31st, 730pm ET, NBC

That game at USC when it was a rout immediately made me know it might be over for Tressel
So that's sorta revisionist history there. As has been pointed out, JT went 23-3 and won a Rose and a Sugar Bowl, but beyond that, the game in 2008 against USC wasn't even more than a 2 score game until late in the 2nd quarter, so saying it was "immediately a rout" isn't true.

And never discount the fact that many recruits will be attending this game on the USC sideline. Hopefully, from what read on Recruiting thread, a number of Mater Dei players (?) might get a glimpse of the heart and soul of the Buckeye team. If I were a recruit, I'd watch both teams, with an eye to where I'd fit in, even though a coach was in my face when other team was playing.....Go Bucks!

To be fair, Tanner didn't say it was immediately a rout. He said, "when it was a rout, immediately made [him] know it..."
I don't think it had anything to do with being over for Tressel. I think he would have been around for 4-5 more years if it hadn't been for the tattoos and such.

OSU is still a touchdown favorite 3 time zones away. And over/under is 53.5. Doesn’t Vegas know we have a backup QB coming in?
Years of wrong bets have me a little shy. But it seems like a good time to bet the "under", doesn't it?
They think the score is going to be about 31-23?

Get a couple screens to Smith.
Hire a couple of zookeepers to teach gorillas how to play offensive line so we can run the ball in short yardage situations.
We got this.

Fair enough. I exaggerated too much there. That might have been the most non competitive Ohio State game Ive ever seen though
We did lead 3-0 though, so that's something. It definitely was demoralizing and I think we all questioned if JT still had it, especially coming off the 2 NC losses. To add insult to injury, Oregon State upset them the next week. But Tressel did get the program back on track and even broke the SEC curse vs Arkansas. Would've for sure competed for the 2011 NC if not for tat gate

It took USC as little time as it could take going up against a Tressel team for the score to get out of reach.

It was clear very early on that we were in as much trouble as I could recall seeing an OSU team unless you went back to the late Earle/early Cooper days.

I lost all faith in Tress keeping us at a NC level seeing that one after the way ‘06 and ‘07 ended.

It was the first time I saw OSU get completely overwhelmed, Florida 06 was bad but with the layoff there, I'm not convinced that OSU team was actually 27 points worse than Florida.

USC beat OSU by 32, but it felt way worse than that, it may as well have been 56-0. Never at any point as a fan have I felt worse about our chops nationally than September 2008.

While I've managed to pretty much block any memory of that game from my mind, the one thing I remember is that my work had an emergency and I got called in during the game. I lived 10 minutes from where I worked. USC score twice while I was driving in and was about to score again when I pulled in the parking lot.
I honestly think I was more upset with the loss in Columbus the following season. Holding a Pete Carroll USC team to 18 points and losing. Tressel absolutely refused to take any chances in that one. There was no reason the Buckeyes should have lost that game, and I think it was then that I started thinking that maybe Tresselball had run it's course.
