Patricia was excellent last year. He really failed the team with his 2nd half approach yesterday though. You just can't sit in a 3 man no rush shell most of the 2nd half against a team with actual talent and expect it not to break.
Smith's first half play calling was pretty good IMO. Minus a couple of obvious bad calls. 2nd half wasnt ideal but the execution by the players wasn't there either.

There will be a moment like ‘24 PSU where they went down 10-0 on the road and we’ll see what they’re made of. One thing about Day is that his teams don’t fall apart like that.
I think you’re starting to drive yourself crazy with disaster scenarios. Everything could fall apart, but it hasn’t yet. We’ll just have to wait and see.

I mean he's now lost his last 3 games against ranked teams and we didn't particularly look very great against Indiana or Cryami and then you get a monument choke job in this game. You can't ignore that things arent trending well

I have seen all the complaints and won't argue any.
Here are mine
-FG kicker missed in the clutch again. He makes it we are up by 9 and win with 98+% certainty
-Last two minutes of defense was as clear a "let them score and save the time for the offense because you only need a FG" (assuming the latest choke artists motherfucker would make it) as you will ever see. Once they were inside the 10-15 there on that slant, players should be hearing from coaches to let them score quick. Just inexcusably poor management.
Those are my two "I'd fire someone for it just to feel better for a few seconds" level rants. The rest can be debated to some degree or another imo.
The IU/USC window just became the whole season. A LOT of work to be done.

Don't think we are really gonna know how they truly respond until Indiana
We will roll over Kent State Illinois and Maryland on talent alone.
And I know Iowa is @ Iowa but that offense is beyond putrid. We aren't losing to Hank Brown and some mediocre RBs.

Scoreboard sure but Texas fans are probably thinking they should have won by 2+ scores. They were the ones self inflicting wounds to start.
Then they cleaned that up and the Bucks got their ass kicked for 30 minutes when it mattered. Ohio State played an error-aided, solid 15 minutes. Then they generated nothing on either side of the ball and topped it off with a special teams miss.
Could have been and maybe should have been worse than 1 point. I’m not sure I’m hanging my hat on that moral victory.
I see a LOT of issues to fix and they seem the same as always:
- Sayin seeing and/or being coached to see the middle of the field
- missing the rare throw when he does,
- OL allowing pressure that leads to losses or eventually rattled play
- DL not getting pressure (by design or talent)
- kicking
- generally a philosophy that even allows it to still come down to kicking
But at least we have #4. So we got that going for us.
Hard for the DL to get pressure when they are stuck in a 3 man line shell most of the 2nd half. The first half was fine when Patricia was calling a real defense.
Id argue the secondary is the bigger issue. They got bailed out on 2 massive screw ups by 2 drops.

I'm a little hit and miss on Patricia. He's pretty conservative. Which is ok overall, I get it at times, especially like last year when half your team is first round picks. But games like yesterday would like to see some sort of scheme to possibly create a big play. Especially since Sayin and the coaches and the offense now are starting to put together a resume of crapping the bed in big games and moments

For sure the most dumb founding loss I’ve witnessed as a buckeye fan. I don’t remember 1998 that well as I was still in middle school.
A 20 point lead, they were completely dead in the water and then we just stopped being aggressive. Just burn a little more clock, score one more time, or any number of chances to stop their offense.
What makes me the most sick was I sort of laughed when they went for it on 4th and 8 from their own 35 or so the first time. I thought for sure that’d fall incomplete and that’d be curtains after we punched in another touchdown to go up 30-3. The fans would’ve started going home and that would’ve been that.
I can’t believe they went for it that first time. I was annoyed when they got the first down by 1 yard, grew more annoyed when they scored, and then I knew we were toast when they got the first down on 4th and 5 from again deep in their own territory. I knew it right then and there.
Should’ve just let Texas score but now it’s all up hill from here. Where does this team go? Do they drop a few more or do they circle the wagons here?
The offense has a lot to figure out. They have to find the right balance of utilizing JJ but also not completely abandoning the other skill players. We aren’t beating teams in the games that matter if we’re only throwing to #4. What we didn’t do on offense yesterday was to use JJ as a decoy to open up others. The offensive line has to figure out what they want to do personnel wise and where the hell was Legend Bey?? He was out there for 1 play and then never saw him again. If he’s a difference maker underneath he can’t leave the field.
Defense was brilliant until they weren’t. I don’t have the words to describe how they went from looking like last years defense to a defense that couldn’t tackle Rondale Moore.
This one stings. It mainly stings to me because I think it’s a tough ask to only lose once to either Oregon, Indiana, USC, Iowa, and Michigan. Arch is literally known for folding when he gets pressure on him. So you go into a soft 3 man rush prevent type shell? Just makes no sense. You bring heat and make him beat you, if he does hats off to him, but you don't sit back in soft shell and let him just dink and dunk you to death.

Coaches are there to put players in a position to win games. Both of these coaches have established playbooks. Their opposites know what to expect .
What works in the NFL and College are not equal. Turtling by coaches is universal. Day, Smith, and Patricia turtled in this game. Day’s reputation as a coach who will screw the pooch in bigs game is growing by the season.

I didn’t know the coordinators didn’t do media but the players did until I watched snap judgements. I like that Birm shows that he’s pissed just enough so he can’t be accused of being unprofessional.
That is a challenging task after witnessing that. But holy fuck, I hope the media asks Day all the tough questions in very blunt fashion. I’d love to hear the rationale.
