Great article/recap until they called this game OSU's unofficial bowl game.

it was the Pedtards' bowl game, not ours.

Good catch, I completely missed that gaffe.

 Are you from a parallel universe?

For the record the PSU fans we saw on Saturday were nowhere near as bad as they have been in the past (05 & 07 were by far the worst I ever witnessed).

I wouldn't call them 'welcoming' but they did they mostly just stayed to themselves and ignored us rather than the constant running off at the mouth that was so common in the past.

Oh and for all the "it isn't about Paterno" line they try to spew, virtually everyone was wearing some sort of homage to the SOB (409 shirts, black glasses, rolled up pant legs, shirts with his profile, quotes...it goes on ad nauseum).

Mali, how do you feel about that can of worms you just opened?

Yeah it was the refs who limited PSU running attack to under 40 yds.

It was the refs who got the pick six against McMoxie.

It was the refs who sacked McMoxie 4 times.

It was the refs who deflected the pass on the fake punt attempt.

It was the refs who torched the PSU secondary for a 72 yd TD pass.

It was the refs who grabbed the facemask of tOSU players and kept drives
alive.

It was the ref who illegally held down the long snapper on a punt.
Note: Maybe PSU fans should watch the game in which Reynolds was flagged for doing the same thing (I think against Wisky? or was itscUM?).

It was the refs who could not keep up with the speed and athleticism of Braxton Miller.

It was the refs who put so much pressure on McMoxie that he hurried most of his throws and was off balance and pressured much of the game.

Darn those refs...

:osu:

The refs didn't fail to punch it in on 1st and goal from inside the five either ... they did, however, give PSU the opportunity to run a 1st and goal play inside the five by extending their drive with a pass interference call in which the WR slammed into Roby who pulled him down.

Spielman's comment was that the WR"did a good job initiating that contact."

I may be mistaken, but isn't it against the rule to "initiate contact" during a pass pattern?

Either way, Ohio State had a drive extended on a perfectly legit penalty and punched it in for a touchdown.

PSU got the same exact benefit (I'll even give them that it was a perfectly legit penalty edit: it was second down so slightly different but the point remains the same because--->) and they failed to score a touchdown from inside the five yard line.

But yes, :sob: they got hosed.

(I'm working my way through the game with an eye out for the impact that the refs are having, if you can't tell.)

Edit: Announcers mentioned that Penn State coaches weren't happy with the officials at the moment after Braxton's amazing run for no apparent reason. :shake: Edit edit: they go back to point out a "hold" after the break which was an amazing block in which Fragel stayed engaged and never gave up on the play which wasn't a freaking hold at all. But, the broadcast went out of their freaking way to point it out and bitch about it. Un-freaking-believable.

Don't show what was one of the best 1-yard touchdown runs you will ever see after the break, point out a phantom holding call. :shake:

And THEN on the ensuing kickoff they bring up the "iffy" holding on the punt. AGAIN. Holy. Hell.

To be "fair," they mention that un-called holding has gone on "on both sides of the ball" although the number of times they have specifically pointed it out is OSU: 3 PSU: 0 at this point which isn't even counting how many times they bring up the punt play.

This is a joke.

Also, the refs didn't give up touchdowns on 4 of 5 drives in the second half (not counting the one in which Ohio State ran out the clock on).

Next day edit:

I'm going to keep adding to this post as I finish watching the game just so I don't waste space.

The announcer guesses that a penalty is a holding against Ohio State when it is in fact a facemask. Nonchalantly says "well I guess I shouldn't guess what the penalty is going to be." Yeah, you wouldn't want to show bias in the telecast.

Specifically complaining about missed holding calls by the ref against a team count- OSU: 4 PSU:0 and it's not even the fourth quarter yet.

The announcers then immediately go into talking about how Ohio State is the most penalized team and PSU is the least in the conference, the implication being that that is impacting the game because OSU has had 3 and PSU has had 6 to this point.

Spielman mentions an uncalled holding about a minute later (1:45:00 in the YouTube replay of the game).

Specific mentions of uncalled holding penalty count- OSU:5 PSU:0

Another drive extended for PSU (they failed to convert on 3rd and 5) on a questionable roughing the passer penalty on Shazier. Announcers shrug it off as usual... not even a hint of a whisper that it might have been a questionable call. Shocking, really.

 Not only do the announcers shrug it off, they prattle on about how it is so important to "protect players" which I guess is as close as they are going to come to admitting that it was a bad call.

Announcers mention that the "timing of penalties against Penn State has been a big issue" which is funny because I do believe the cult is parroting that exact same line in defense of their "Big Ten holds us down with officiating" conspiracy theory.

Announcers too busy waxing poetic about what a great job O'Brien is doing to mention the obvious hold on Nathan Williams at 2:13:00 on third and long. Drive extended.

 They show Meyer screaming "That was holding!" on the sidelines and the announcers still don't mention it. They are STILL talking about O'Brien. :slappy:

More obvious holding on Hankins at 2:15:15. STILL talking about O'Brien and what a great job he's doing in a tough situation.

Pass interference call in the endzone. Announcers congratulate receiver on "earning" the call. Once again, I guess that is as close as they will come to maybe mentioning that a questionable call went against OSU?

Don't forget that the refs missed a wide open Robinson right out of the gate and the refs knocked two sure interceptions out of PSU defenders hands on the second drive.

im not so sure! Speilman even said he was diving at the state penn players knees. Even though on replay Haynes tries to stand up to release downfield before being pulled to the ground by his jersey. I really like spiels as an announcer but im sorry he was very bad sat night.

Why is it that the bolded does not get talked about during that replay? You clearly see that he GRABS the sleeves of the long snapper and pulls him to the ground, well within the 1 second of the snap. Wrong call of Holding, it should have been called Roughing the snapper. Either way, Bars grabbed the jersey and did not simply block him to the ground as many pedsters state.

You clearly see his grabbing the sleeves at 0:15.

@ 9:36 - Holding #46 on the offense.
@ 10:06 - Holding #65 on the offense.
@ 18:49 - Holding #18 on the offense. (Negates a 1st down as well as a 20 yard gain)
@ 19:50 - Bogus penalty on OSU, he let go as soon as he reached the sideline yet it's still Personal Foul
@ 20:52 - Holding #64 on the offense
@ 22:30 - Holding #54 on the offense
@ 23:10 - Unsportsmanlike conduct on #42 on the kicking team.

That was just their first two drives No more bitching about the refs.

You have to make note of how loud the PSU fans were at the beginning...both Speilman and McDumbfuck were commenting how it was louder than they had ever heard it there. The team didn't panic, even after giving up the blocked punt TD for the game's first score...shit could've easily gone south in a hurry. After our score with a half minute left in the first half, you could hear the air leaving the stadium, and after Shazier's pick six to start the second half, the crowd was never back into it to near the degree they were in the beginning. I'm feeling much, much better about our chances up in Damp Cramhole in three weeks...

Yes and the fact that our scoring a couple of TDs may have coincided
with the PedState fans losing their first half beer buzz early in the second half.

Penn State and Illinois were my only two remaining concerns. Wisconsin's offense is all about power running, and we've proven we can stop that this season. Couple that with their QB being out for the season now, we should be able to handle them just like we did PSU (I don't see Nebraska numbers on offense but it would be nice)

Michigan.....well they're Michigan. Contain Robinson and they're done. 'Bama proved it was possible. Notre Dame proved it was possible. Nebraska proved they could do it for at least 2 quarters.

Okay, so I'm finally done with this.

I apologize for the long "stream of consciousness" post but the bottom line is that the announcing for that game was truly awful and undoubtedly fed into the crybaby antics from Penn State fans.

By my count, Ohio State had two drives extended by penalties and penalties alone. The first one was questionable but had no impact on the game as Ohio State punted soon after.

The second one was obviously illegal on the punt which led to the Ohio State score. There was nothing controversial about the call but the announcers talked about it being controversial into the second half.

Although it is difficult to tell since PSU was going for it on fourth down so much, their drives were aided by a questionable roughing the passer call on third-and-long which led to a touchdown and a no-call holding on third-and-long which also led to a touchdown in the second half.

The announcers also specifically mentioned they felt Ohio State got away with holding at least five times, mostly on big runs or touchdown runs.

They specifically mentioned PSU "getting away" with holding exactly zero times the entire game although they broadly mentioned both sides getting away with things once.

This was particularly humorous near the end of the game when the cameras clearly showed Meyer screaming about holding on the sideline on a drive extending third and long (which Penn State ultimately scored on, for the record) and the announcers continued to prattle on about O'Brien.

So, two takeaways.

Truly awful, awful announcing.

Penn State fans are the biggest conspiracy theory spouting crybabies in the universe and the announcers did nothing but feed into that the entire game.

Okay, I'm officially done with this now.

The classic "it's someone else's fault for why we failed" bull[Mark May] is part of their old culture as well.

Maybe they shouldn't have thrown that pick 6. Or defended the run better. Or had their O-Line block better so they could protect their QB and at least get some respectable yards running the ball. Or scored a TD when you had it 1st and goal from the 3. Or had your DBs catch the ball for pick 6's in the first half. Or maybe they shouldn't have played like dog [Mark May] for the entire 3rd quarter.

You were outplayed on Saturday. Get over it, Nits. If you're going to blame losing the game on the refs, you are the defintion of a PSU fanboy. U mad?? Man-up and play better.
