tOSU at Navy (M&T Bank Stadium), Aug 30th @ 12pm ET, CBS Sports Network

My reactions from the initial depth chart:

- All the "or"s hopefully mean we have good depth.
- No "or" next to JT...it seems the staff does not want him looking over his shoulder worrying about losing his spot right now and I think that is a smart approach with a young QB. Give him his confidence.
- The "or"s at OL are a tad disconcerting...on one hand, it could mean we just have great interior depth and I like that Boren initially won his spot. But I also hope the 5 that are starting can gel together in time.
- Shocked at Burrows over Bell. Every indication was that Bell had that spot locked down. Also intrigued by the Conley/Apple battle. Between those two position battles, I thin one or two will slide down to the Nickel in the place of Reeves...gets our best 5 DBs on the field imo.
- Not really surprised at the "or" next to Jalin and Dontre. Jalin has had an outstanding camp and even with the "or" designation, I suspect we will see them both on the field at times.
- What ever happened to James Clark? Was on the depth chart last year as a freshman and not this year, nor have I heard a peep on him in spring or summer. Hopefully he is just coming back slowly from his injury and will be ready to contribute next year with the departures of Spencer and D. Smith.
- RB was not a huge surprise for me, as I thought/hoped all of EzE/Smith/Samuel would get their touches. It will be exciting to see them rotate as a 3-headed monster...Bama has had a lot of success with this and I think we can too, especially with all the unique skill sets in there.
- Although Lee and Grant are listed the starters, I suspect we see McMillan and Worley (maybe Booker) get some snaps in there, especially since we will be playing our base 4-3 against Navy. Also interesting to not even see Hubbard on the depth chart.
- The "or" next to Schutt is just mad respect...sounds like the coaches were not kidding about how well he has been playing. Love to see that depth. Bummer to yet again not see Carter on the depth chart at DT though...on the plus side, Munger and Hill both being on there is encouraging. Also I expect Frazier and Miller to rotate 50/50 at the other DE spot.
- Surprised there is no "or" next to Spencer and C. Smith...I think that is just semantics, by all accounts C. Smith is supposed to be our go-to guy this year.

I'm sure there's a number of people not on that depth chart that will see a good chunk of playtime this year.
Carter being one. Ball and Dunn being two others.
Hubbard's flip-flop with TE suggested he was on the bubble to begin with. Maybe another year to see what's going on there. I'm not too worried about it.
Thomas and JT had a great chemistry from the Spring game so I hope to see that get fleshed out. I know everyone is raving about Corey, but he didn't show a lot in the Spring game.
I'm hoping some receivers get a chance to push Evan and Devin in gametime and displace them or put a fire under them. Right now seems like they're up there by default as Seniors with decent production over last season.

Didn't know where to put this sooooo I'll put it here.....

Finish Line is having 2 for $40 for all their college hoodies/zip up's with free shipping so now is a good time to stock up on some fresh OSU gear before kick off :)

Now is the time to wear the stuff that's been proven to help the Buckeyes win. If it ain't faded, leave it hanging.

- Started prepping for Navy on the 1st day of camp.
- Marshon Lattimore had surgery, pulled hamstring during high school track season. Did pretty well during summer, but then down hill.
- Talked to Braxton this morning, who is supposed to return this evening.
- Feels really good about the RBs. Brionte & Rod were written off, but not anymore. Had great camps. Curtis recruited as an H, but was so productive at RB during the spring that they kept him there.
- Feels he has good players, so he's not nervous. Every possession critical when you play service academies. Have to get 1st downs, no 3 & outs. Thinks team will play really well.
- As long as players play really hard, he's "ok" with mistakes. Mistakes are on the coaches....coaches can't control lack of effort.
- Thinks the "ors" on the depth chart are a positive, but will let us know after the game.
- Tremendous amount of respect for the service academy teams. Thinks Navy is really good.

13 Tr/RS Fr in the two-deep
5 add'l third team but listed

Vs

6 healthy SO or older 3rd string or unlisted:
-Dodson: younger than the 4 guys ahead of him
-Dunn
-Ball
-T Johnson
-C Williams
-C Carter

Bogard and Braxton are hurt, Spence suspended.

I know the depth chart isn't the be all, end all, but that seems like good roster integrity.

My dad had back surgery this morning. Everything went well. When he was coming out of it the Doc asked how he was feeling and he said "Better than a Michigan fan."!!! It's football season gentleman.

Roster looks deep. Buddy says all the "ors"shows indecision on who should be starting and is a silly tactic to confuse the opponent. I told him to eat shit and die. Just means we have kids who can play football.

Yea I've been wondering how many people making predictions saw that 2009 game. It ended similar to scUM last year and cost us ranking like Buffalo too.
Granted Urban's offense is a lot better than Tressel's but Pryor wasn't chopped liver either.
Navy loses their share of games, especially when they're out matched ... but they usually keep it pretty close. Maybe that's the respect factor, or maybe it's the style.
