Game Thread tOSU at Iowa, Sat Nov 20, 3:30 ET, ABC/ESPN

I've been pretty critical of this team. Mainly the defense, which is weird because it's statistically the second-best defense in the country. I'm not sold on our pass defense, I don't think we can generate consistent pressure (although we got pressure tonight, just barely missed the QB most of the time). Our offense doesn't have an identity and our special teams are awful.

That being said....

This team has something. It knows how to win. They do it in the ugliest way possible and make it really tough on themselves sometimes, but they can do it. We've seen this team firing on all cylinders and it's ridiculously fun to watch. Aside from Wisconsin, they've overcome their blunders and mistakes and shown a lot of heart and grit and won a lot of games. They win games in which they play badly. It's great, and very unique. Honestly, I'm surprised we won that game. Penalties killed us. Drops killed us. We couldn't run the ball consistently with our RB. TP was off. But they stepped up and made plays when they needed to, and that's something talent and coaching can't do. It's all heart.

Now let's go curbstomp the Wolverines and head into the bowl season knowing that Tressel not only beat Michigan, he ran two coaches out of Ann Arbor and turned the winningest program in NCAA history into a MAC team. :oh:

Really? Well that decent team gave our top 10 a hell of a game. Don't get it twisted Iowa has lost alot of close games this year and they are a good football team. Iowa always plays us tough.

Tressel ball won us this game. It didn't almost lose it.

Tresselball was not the problem tonight....I agree. It has directly led to several losses over the years. But I digress.....

Tressel seems to have lost the ability to motivate his players. Coming out flat and uninspired is becoming the norm, not the exception. It's just something that many are starting to notice. Perhaps it's Tressel's calm, business-like demeanor ? Perhaps it's such lofty expectations for the team that makes the regular season seem less inspiring ? Whatever it is, the team takes way too long to start playing with fire and focus......that is why we lost to Wisconsin plain and simple.

I love Tressel running this program...his record speaks for itself. But the coaching staff needs something different to spark the team. I look for an assistant coaching change to shake things up just a little.

Yes, this was amazing. I had never seen a fly by that seemed that close to the stadium! Awesome. But even cooler was that the crew came down on the field (I think between the third and 4th quarters) and one of the guys was a Buckeye fan. He actually ran down to the endzone where we were sitting and was high fiving all of us. Pretty cool.

It continues to astound me how spoiled, and at times clueless, our fanbase is. :shake:

So what you come out flat against PSU and Iowa and all of a sudden it's the norm? We have come out in the first half guns-a-blazzing most of this year. The other team has players too, and sometimes they play better than us. It's part of the game. I'm sick of the bitching after we don't beat the shit outta of a team. We play in the Big Ten people, not the Big East.

Make up your mind. You give him credit for his record (which is outstanding) immediately after saying it's his fault for "several losses over the years." So you praise him for having such a great record, but damn him for it not being good enough?

You're a little late to the stoning and the rock you picked up is a little small.

Just watched the game for the first time and there were a lot of baffling calls against Ohio State, and a lot of no calls for Ohio State that left me shaking my head in disbelief.

Trying not to be a homer (Hard to do!!), but holy crap.

dislike contact? the dude slows down so he can throw his elbow at the nearest defender. I think he was banged up at the time you were talking about.

When he slows down, he slows down to protect his body. Its a misconception to say he slows down just so he can make contact. He slows down so he can get low, protect his legs, and avoid injury. He doesn't like contact at all....

Couple of observations since I wasn't able to post them during the game....

1. That non-call where Philly Brown was clotheslined was fucking criminal. Then only to call the same call on Jermale Hines defies all logical explanation.

2. When the defensive line needed to get pressure in crunch time, they did.

3. TP fought through a game where even though he was making some bad decisions and balls were dropped and he was clearly frustrated, he still performed at a level high enough to get the W. I read earlier where someone said TP takes things too personally - to hell with that. Taking it personally motivates people. When he's able to take it personally and apply it successfully to the field of play that is what defines a winner. Fuck the haters.

4. That Posey dropped TD nearly made me break my hand on the bar I was sitting at. I felt bad for him and I really hoped he would get picked up by his teammates or would get a chance to redeem himself. Maybe this week he'll get another chance to catch that ball.

5. Sanzo = STUD.
