tOSU at Indiana, Sat. 9/2, 3:30pm EST, CBS

Public tickets just went on sale at 8am. Was on phone with buddy, plenty of selection.

We’ll have a group of 10 friends in Section 105, row 3/4.
I saw "Section 105" and thought....."wait.....there's no section 105 in Ohio Stadium".

Then I thought....."wait.....we're starting out on the road against a B1G opponent?!"

Then I threw a tantrum and destroyed half the things in my reach.

Then I realized I'm not a Penn State fan and stopped acting like a pathetic crybaby bitch.

Re: (an old article) Will Memorial Stadium be another Buckeye haven this coming weekend season? It will be interesting to find out if chants of “O-H-I-O” are evident during the Big Ten Network’s CBS's broadcast Saturday night afternoon.

Just sayin': Cheer loud and often!!!

Hate to say it, but Day might 'copy' Hairball's technique, of playing QB1 for a half, and QB2 for a half. Rinse and repeat until one appears (methinks before ND), to be the most efficient at: moving offense; minimizing turnovers; and hitting this wonderful stable of receivers in stride for TDs. Seems too close to tell, both are intelligent, strong arms, with varying degrees of charisma and coolness (in the huddle). Since Day played CJ last year, dunno, trying to build stats for Heisman (?), etc. tOSU had little chance to build experience into these two. Kyle started one game while CJ was injured, and did pretty well. Recollect that Haskins came in during Xichigan game, led them to a TD, and probably assured himself of starting role the next year (against Joe B). But as the stock guys say, "prior performance is no guarantee of future performance"......Go Bucks!

Harbaugh really KNEW who the starter was all along, that was obvious, he was just hoping to give McNamara enough to save face and keep him from getting upset and transferring right away. Also scUM is still largely a run first offense, their QB doesn't have to do what Ohio State's does currently.

I don't think this would work well here.

buckeyemania, agree with what you said. Heard all along from Xichigan guys at club that JJ was always a done deal. Much like the rest of TSUN's qb recruiting, whatever is he new shiny thing. Why wouldn't that work here? Seems like an elegant solution. Both QBs seem to have the offense's respect, both have good arms, etc. Am curious as to your thoughts.

I think rhythm and connection on the field between the QB and WRs is quite a bit more important in our offense than scUMs. When you keep switching guys every game it's harder to build that between the QB & WRs

See Joe Germaine/Stanley Jackson to validate that opinion, it never actually works. I don't think Day will screw that up though. There is a ton to like about McCord's potential and I do think he will be the starter in this game. And I think he would hold onto the position except that if the OL pass pass pro issues, we may need a more mobile QB and that would appear to be Brown. Brown is good enough to potentially earn the job and I wouldn't be shocked if that happens, but with the spring injury and time lost I think that will only benefit McCord (ala the Dwayne Haskins/Joe Burrow scenario that even pundits don't realize happened).

No matter how it shakes out, I am taking the Stroud against Minnesota opener approach with whoever starts. So many OSU fans in the stadium were calling for Stroud to get benched for McCord...granted CJ didn't start off that great, fans don't know why a QB wins the starting job and we found out throughout the season. So whoever wins the job, I will trust Day and company and be patient (or try).

Yea i'm not worried about McCord as a passer at all, it's the OL being able to give him time to actually show that off against better teams that I worry about. Not sure Indiana really qualifies as a "better team" when it comes to stressing our OL though. Likely won't be until game 4 against ND that we see where we really are there.

If the OL does happen to struggle early against Indiana though, and McCord is like a deer in the headlights having no time to throw, we are going to see a lot of the calling for him to be benched, even more so than Stroud in the Minnesota game.

We're on the same page then, only real thing for me is a Week 1 is the road night game and a in-conference team that will want to beat us bad...that is partially of why I harkened back to the Minnesota opener (though they had a very good team that year). I am glad we should have until Week 4 for the OL to settle in, if we had ND to open against again I would be concerned...genius scheduling to be honest on our end.

But agreed that people will be calling for a benching if pass pro doesn't hold up in this one. I am hoping my concerns are unfounded, we should handle our business. Just watched enough college football to know it is not out of the realm of possibility. One thing I will say though is McCord is more athletic than I think people realize...he's no Braxton Miller, but he is a more capable runner than Stroud was.

INDIANA, SEPTEMBER 2ND

Okay, not an out-of-conference opponent, or strictly even an away game given how well Ohio State fans travel to Bloomington, but also one of the games that Buckeye fans are most confident in winning this year.

Which is fine! Because they're probably going to be bad. Head coach Tom Allen doesn't know who the quarterback is, and of course only bad football teams haven't figured out their starting quarterback at this point. Their offensive line was terrible in 2022, their defense is in a huge state of flux, and they have a bevy of untested and unproven players at receiver. Except wide receiver Cam Camper.

Camper is coming off a torn ACL, and before that he wasn't particularly consistent. But in the games he got up for, my dude freaking got up:

4. INDIANA (SEPT. 2, AWAY)

Average Ranking: 3.5
High Rank: 2
Low Rank: 7

Ohio State has won 28 straight games against Indiana, and most of our staff expects the Buckeyes to have no problem making that 29. Four of our 10 voters ranked the season opener behind only Youngstown State as the second-easiest win of the year, while all but two voters put the Hoosiers in the top four.

Wins haven’t always come easy when the Buckeyes have opened their season with a conference game on the road, however; the Buckeyes have trailed at halftime the last two times they’ve done that (Minnesota in 2021 and Indiana in 2017) before ultimately going on to win. With that in mind, as well as the uncertainty Ohio State will enter the season with at quarterback and on the offensive line, Matt Gutridge ranked the season opener as only his seventh-most confident win.

Look's like Indiana has not figured out their QB situation either.

Probably not a good thing that their ace transfer from Tennessee (Tayven Jackson who was a 4* #12 QB in the 2022 Class) is still "neck and neck" with Brendan Sorsby who 247 had as the #101 QB and #235 ranked played in the state of Texas in the 2022 class.

Would really like to see a stellar shut down performance from the pass defense especially in this one.

Did Lee Corso Stop A Game To Take A Scoreboard Picture?

But in the first minute of the second quarter, according to a 1977 Sports Illustrated article by John Underwood, something bizarre happened.

That’s one version of the story. However, there are some immediate red flags.

For instance, Indiana led the Buckeyes 10-7 at halftime of the 1965 game, just 11 years earlier. Not even close to the 25 years Corso claimed.

A bigger issue is that Indiana University’s official archives have not been able to locate the supposed photo.

The photo at the top of this article is from the IU Archives file on the 1976 OSU/IU game, but they don’t have the scoreboard photo.

According to their records, “there is no mention or photo of such an event in the following Monday’s (Nov. 1, 1976) Indiana Daily Student.”

They also cite an anonymous player from that team who says it didn’t happen.

Ohio State’s archives don’t include photos from the game because it was on the road.

Additionally, neither The Indianapolis Star, nor The Columbus Dispatch, nor The Lantern recap of that game mention the scoreboard picture.

The official play-by-play of the game didn’t track timeouts, so it’s impossible to know if Corso called a timeout after the score (top of page 6).

It’s the kind of amusing and self-deprecating story Corso has been known for telling over the years. It might have just been a joke he told Underwood that then became “fact” over the years.

You can find video of the 1978 OSU/IU game online, but not the 1976 matchup.

Without that, and without a photo or game recap from that day that mentioned what obviously would have been a memorable event, this is just a great story for now.

Just sayin': Is it an "urban legend" or did it actually happened?
Yes it happened. I saw it. "Fight the team acfoss the field da da dada .......
